Over the holiday weekend I managed to weather these 2 which had been nearly completed a long long time ago as they have fixed buffers and I think romford 00 wheels so pre my EM days.
One is an old Mainline brake with handrails fitted, and brake gear etc added, just need to give the roof a coat of paint, the other is some old kit, which from the pic I see it needs a slight repair.
All I did was add a bit of rust and the weathering, all done with acrylics and brush painted.
Now I found a carrier bag of old kit built wagons and brakes when I tidied out the shed this weekend, how or why they were there god only knows, but these were the most finished and least damaged, in the hord were several 3h wagons and vans and an ABS gunpowder van.

I have one of those Loco Coal wagons which I got from Colin Ashby. Roger Chivers also does them.

For those of you not at all interested I took a pic of the remaining wagons, all apart from 2 are 00, most have tension lock couplings and all have some damage from being dumped on, there are 2 Parkside vans for the eagle eyed (bottom right) that are finished in BR livery and have EM wheel sets, these were the first EM wagons I built, and were for a York model railway club layout, I stopped being a member of the club around 1995ish. I'm wondering if the wagons were on the first leg of a journey to the tip, as the boss says she did not put them there, they must have been in the back of the shed for years. I do like sorting out, you never know what you will find.

I have tons of stuff squirelled away (supposedly for my retirement). Problem is I have now idea where.

Yes Mike I'm a fully paid up member of the put it away for retirement club, kits, materials etc, get it while you make the mula, just hope I live long enough to get through it all. I know where all that stuff lives it's the other bits I keep finding that amazes me.

Good morning everyone
It must be endemic amongst railways modellers. I have many kits bought over the same number of years that have been put away for my retirement. However, now that its here, the kit pile is still increasing. I've bought fourteen locos this year, and only built one of them so far.

Quick question as I don't have my books to hand.

A3's when did the hole between the frames become a sliding door at the front of the loco (access to the middle cyl).

Are we talking about the straight A3 builds, or the A1's to A3's, or just in general? Whilst I was researching Tracery for my conversion it appeared as though the access cover was hinged when built - then left off - before becoming a sliding variant.

It would appear (according to photos located here http://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/ ... OCOMOTIVES ) that a large number of A3's acquired their sliding covers around 1946.

Okay, looking elsewhere (Google is useful - LNER 2751 - straight into search) I can make a guess that while the loco was being used for the smoke deflection trials, the available photos show the front access as being open (no cover). After the trials, it appears that Humorist was fitted with a hinged cover. Hope this helps.

Brian, I came to the same conclusion, but will need to get part 2a back from my mate who borrowed it.

John, Gay Crusader is waiting for a green non corridor tender, ex Flying Fox. Humorist has always been a favourite of mine and many years ago I converted an early Hornby Scotsman with cut out smokebox, then rebuilt it back to original A3 form and renamed it, it still lives.
