Yes, sorry, take your point. I'm racking my brains to think where those Met Camms with 4 character headcodes were based. And the sunlight does look strong for September.

I am fairly sure that these DMUs (late build class 111) were allocated to Neville Hill for most of their life and certainly during this period.

I am intrigued as to what this station is. It doesn't appear to be in regular passenger use, or at least this part of the platform isn't. There isn't a bit of the usual platform furniture present, the lighting is very rudimentary even for that time and just what lies to the left of that cross bracing?

This is a long-shot but it has the look of the Forth Banks Goods warehouses?

Just had a look on the Disused Stations site. It contains a picture of the 1971 Tyneside Rover tour at Bedlington. The only shots of the train during its photo stop there are all facing towards Bedlington North SB, so only one end of the train is seen. Whilst Bedlington isn't the location in the OPs picture it does show that at least one of the DMU cars had the 2-character headcode box, mounted below the cab windows with the destination box above the cab windows.

The station appears to be undergoing works, with scaffolding and planking visible in the bays.
What stations had major works carried out in the 70s?
Could it be one of the Leeds stations in the course of remodelling and the concentration on Leeds City.

What are the small shunt signals visible on the end of the building?

Have had a suggestion that the roof looks LNWR in style.
Now we have ruled out Huddersfield.
What other LNWR stations could there be?

Do you mean LNWR generally or LNWR Leeds area? Dewsbury and Stalybridge spring to mind but the former had no warehouse and neither had such extensive (red brick?) buildings which were modified.

Generally.
I cannot think of any station in West Riding / Teeside / Tyneside that would be a possibility.

A friend last night said that the style of the roof construction is very much like LNWR styling.
Would Carlisle, Preston etc be a possibility?

It's challenging test for observation. It seems unusual that there are no "totems" visible, nor seats; and whatever hazard is on the left there are no railings, all suggesting that it's not a passenger platform. However, there's no BRUTES about suggesting it's not a parcels depot either, although the litter on the tracks looks look stuff from unloading wagons rather than from passengers.
If the building on the right is BR (and the door leads onto BR tracks) it's also interesting that the woodwork looks to be painted (and faded) blue, i.e. Eastern region (not NE tangerine).

No weren't the signs Tangerine but everything was Oriental Blue and white like Grosmont on the NYMR?

Yes. But like I said earlier the signals are painted white although at this time (1971) signals in the "real" North East (north of York) were painted in grey micaceous oxide until about 1975 so I think this is Leeds or even further south.
The building is apparently brick so it rules out Carlisle which would have maroon paintwork anyway and the same goes for Preston.
The length of the roof suggests a really big station.

Just showed the photo to a friend and he believes the station is Wakefield Kirkgate, and it may be the 2 October 1971 when the SLS ran a rail tour to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Manchester. The tour stopped at Wakefield for 2 mins. Hope this helps.
