Having asked the builder to think about duplicating his posts on this forum, for our benefit, he has pointed out quite reasonably that he'd be happy enough to do so but that time is at a premium for him (he works, as do I) so duplication of postings eats into his much needed modelling time. For those who have not yet seen this interesting late 30s LNER layout-in-the-making, I therefore take the liberty of posting another link to bandit country:

Yes, an excellent thread. I love the tips about tweaking the proprietary trackwork in order to produce more realistic looking turnouts and crossing formations. It really does make a lot of difference to the appearance of the model.

I went up to Grantham for a running day yesterday. Other who took better photos will be posting them elsewhere, so here are my efforts from the day.

Atlantic 3279 joined us and brought much of the stock which has graced these pages in the last few years:

Someone seems to have let young Mr Bulleid into the Erecting Shop again:

Here 2750's lovely Capercaillie is handing an up express over to Osprey.

and Night Hawk is being relieved by City of Lincoln (or Indefatigable depending which platform you stood on).

The owners' new station pilot (a Tony Wright build) looked very good.

We were even more impressed when it strolled away with a 48 wagon coal train later in the day.

Star of the show for me, though, doing what it was built for:

Good morning all
The P1 looks magnificent, I assume it's GK's conversion from an A1. I found his thread about the conversion on shhhh----- Rmweb, and must get round to building the body (the chassis runs), but I can only aspire to such good work. So many roundtuits needed and so little time.

2571 'SUNSTAR' on the Up 'FLYING SCOTSMAN'

4901 'CAPERCAILLIE' thunders through Grantham Station heading for 'the Cross'

2577 'NIGHT HAWK' is coaled on Grantham Shed, before heading back home North to York.

I also like the D3

I think it is a D3 but may become the - as you say - rare D2. I'll ask the owner next time I remember.

afternoon all
I looked at the green book (vol3B) and 4312 was a D4 converted to a D3 in 4/17 and withdrawn in 1946, so would only have been a D3 in LNER days.

Ah, the luxury of working with your library within reach.

I've had a memo from the DC pointing out that it is indeed a D4 but is waiting works for conversion to a D3.

I'm also reminded that Capercaillie above is already on the up working and it is Osprey which has been relieved and is now reversing down the Down to reach the shed. I should have remembered, as she was held at the starter for an age while I was on the shed panel waiting for her to come in.
