Fair point, that loco is well overdue for building......
Oddly enough, after thinking about iron-on transfers being "better" than the unknowns of the internet, I called in to see a local man who does such thing on my way home for din-dins today. He's making the right sort of noises so far - I'll see what he says when I take the design, and a green colour chip, in for him to see.

Good morning all
It might be an idea to get the LNER coat of arms done as an embroidered badge, and then names and numbers could be added to one's choice.
We did this for our golf tour rabble, our own gorilla type badge not LNER, with the name of the rabble above the badge and our nickname below. However, our first order was for sixteen shirts, but now everytime a tourist wants a new shirt, it doesn't cost much more that a standard polo shirt.
When we've done iron-on transfers in the past, we've cut round the design to remove the background, which minimises the area of the transfer.

Whilst the T-shirt plan awaits the next opportunity for action, following time spent trekking around Britain in connection with my offspring I now find myself using the good weather to deal with some overdue maintenance tasks on my "35 years young" motor car.
Thanks however to the supply of some genuine original PC transfers by he who might currently be known as "Half a Dozen Hunslets" I have been able to replace my home-printed insignia on the Bulleid, to good effect. I understand a smokebox door ring may follow too. I might manage to post a picture later today.

Here we are, far more detail in these transfers than I could home-print at the necessary size. The elusive D is spliced together using parts of a 1 & a 0.
I shall have to do a spot of re-varnishing now. Not sure whether to brighten up the yellow bow-pen lines a touch, or rely on the dull varnish to tone down the insignia transfers, or just accept/ignore a slight mis-match of colour.....

Inspired by something seen on the WP Notcutt website I've had a go at producing a trial version of my A1/1 smokebox casting without actually putting the core-piece into the mould. Continuous steady rotation of the mould as the resin cures does the trick very nicely. This promises to be a very hand means of saving on time, effort, materials and brainache. I've been holding back from the idea of trying to cast a complete boiler in one go because I envisaged the complexities of producing multi-part outer and inner moulds to cast (and release) the shapes of things such as smokebox bases and lower parts of the firebox sides. I'm now tempted to think that I can take a leap forward......

G'day Manna - I think I may have a smokebox ring already on the way to me from another source. I'll check. If not, then an alternative offer is very nice, but is it economic to send it?
Hi Bill - Thanks, yes, I found that drawing and as you can see I departed from it . Motivation to do so was twofold: I wanted to minimise the amount of time-consuming work involved in altering extra details of the rather basic kit (at a stage when I didn't even know if the final model would work properly), and secondly the "intention" as per the first drawings does not always become reality in every detail by the time the locos are actually built. The weakness in my plan is that my loco still has only the BB/WC length of firebox, so it can't easily claim to be a model of Bulleid's boat train shifter,but if you don't point this out to anybody, then neither will I.........

Just a thought..... Page 54 of RCTS Vol10a describes a 4-8-2 that Bert Spencer thought that ' but for the intervening war there was every prospect of the design being proceeded with.' There is an outline diagram on page 62 as well.
Might be fun, if ever I run out of other projects, through it might be difficult to get round my bends!
