Reid-MacLeod steam turbine condensing locomotive. Not complete as I still need to build the vent arrangement on top of the cab roof, but nearer than it was.

I need some help (no sniggering at the back). Looking at the official photos of the R-M on trials the same two coaches seem to have been in use (probably multiple pictures of the same run) and would like to know two things -

1. What are they?
2. Are there suitable kits available or rtr models close enough to convert?

I don't think I've dared to look at this thread since disaster occurred to the Reid McLeod in (was it?) February. Delighted to see it's back in play. That mesh is a b****r to match, isn't it?

Cheers, fellas. The Reid needed a bit of work, but it now goes better than ever (famous last words). I'm now looking at the possibilities of forming the train as it ran on trials (loco plus two coaches), so if anyone has any ideas with regards the coaches...?

If you could enlarge the photos that would be helpful but the upper one has the look of a North Eastern bow ended coach to it. Something like this:

Hate to say it, but the bow ended coach reminds me of a BR 2b coach................I wonder a case of 2b or not 2b, shut up manna and go home.

Coach looks very strange compared to a Gresley version?

Did it have panels lined out in such a way as never seen like it before looks like a LMS Coach !!

Is it Teak Grained or Plain Brown too ? otherwise looks lovely !!

There was quite a bit of discussion about it when I built it (it was one of a pair) on my WB thread. Isinglass drawing suggested it was lined and that was the only way I could see the lining could have been done. All the photos I have (as well as John Edgson's notes) suggested plain livery, no evidence of grain, so that's what I did.

These were prototypes by Arthur Kimber; I hope we'll get some more of these from him in the future.

Thanks JW I forgot about the source etc (must be age!!) . I will look it up again.

I have never heard of plain Teak being lined personally, but thats on Suburban stock.

Must get around to trying a kit of Arthurs too

Regardless if the lining is correct or not, it does look wonderful! Great work JW!

There are a few test etches of these two coaches lying around somewhere. They are not complete and lack the solebar detail. I will check what I have left.

These coaches are not at the front of the queue for release but they are not forgotten. I intend to incorporate some of the changes suggested by Jonathan.

The open first and thirds are also partially designed as is the bogie brake.
