P2 update

Had an e-mail today from a certain Liverpool shop stating :

"Hornby R3207 Class P2 2-8-2 2001 'Cock O' The North' in LNER livery . "Main range"version. Etched nameplates & enhanced livery. £99.00

"Our latest information from the supplier suggests this item will arrive with us on or after Monday 14th October 2013.

"Whilst we are hopeful this information is accurate, manufacturer lead times are frequently prone to be delayed. This information is to be used as a guide only."

Got the same, and notification that the Great gathering A4's are due to arrive in July

Still no pre-prod shots of the P2 yet though....

Ah well Blackout, that's because I'm the only one who'll be allowed to see the early pre-prod P2 pictures.

I would have thought that with all the photos of the Duke, that the P2 would have emerged in some form by now

Probably still trying to work out how to get the 2-8-2 around 2nd radius curves without going flangeless on at least one wheelset?

I hear this morning, from "the horse's mouth" (though I won't name the horse) that "all will be as it should be" regarding wheel size, flanges and wheelbase for Hornby's Cock o' the North.
I won't allow my mouth to start watering yet, though it easily would.

That sounds rather promising! My only worry at present is the bearing type and the detailing. Fingers crossed for no.2001 - if they get it right, it'll be the show stopper to end all show stoppers...

When I saw a promotional email from my local model shop telling me a Hornby Cock Of The North was for sale at £71.75 I was amazed; but then I read it fully and saw it was a 9F.

What is that all about?

The NYMR decided to name there 9F 'Cock O' the North'. I have my own opinions on that....all I will say is that a loco with that name should have a 2-8-2 wheel arrangement.

They have also repainted her with mixed traffic lining.

The NYMR has no say on the 9F's livery and / or name. It is all up to Stuart Whitter, 92214's owner. I helped with some post - overhaul setup and was on the footplate for the initial yard run over a month and a bit ago, so all is well with the 9F

Fortunately the General Public see a steam engine as just that, but its a pity there isn't the equivalent of English Heritage for steam loco restorations! If the HLF are involved in financially assisting restorations they insist that they are historically accurate by the bye. The same sad scenario applies to Hunslet 48150 'Jessie' from Llangollen where the only survivor of a class masquerades as Thomas whilst its saddle tank lies stored on top of a wagon.

Its an emotive subject, but I would prefer to see accurate liveries whatever the era applied, but cannot myself be blameless as I had a London Routemaster painted in a operator livery it never ran in service with.

The tragedy is if you do paint something in a 'wrong' livery, even people who should know better say they remember it like that. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

I wonder how many unknowing folks will order the wrong Cock O' the North!

Bit of gritty oil? More like a whack round the back of the head with a shovel

I've been lucky with crews so far - first turn out on 75029 and I'd done everything bar drive.

Anyway, back on topic. Something I have noticed about the pre-prod shots is that the coal in the tender appears to be moulded in - anyone think the tender as a whole is a new tool?

On a RR model I expect that, not to difficult cover over. I just want it to rock up.

There was some very miserable drivers on BR, one was so bad he was nicknamed 'the Angry Silence' maybe one or two words if you were lucky
