I am creating a website depicting my brother's collection of photographs. The accompanying photo data is very sketchy to say the least and may not even be correct. Because I am human and humans can make mistakes I apologise if I make bloomers. If you feel you have found an error or I have taken the wrong track, please feel free to contact me and enlighten me with details of my mistakes. At the end of the day any help with data will be much appreciated.

Apart from letting enthusiasts see my brother's photos, it is hoped the site may generate the odd donation to the hospice that looked after him in his fight against cancer.

Superb, and vast, collection of photos. I especially enjoyed seeing the shots around my old stomping ground, Oakleigh Park and Hadley Wood on pages 16-18 in our section. I only got as far as page 26 tonight and the old minces were giving out. I'll have a gander at the rest of the photos tomorrow. Thanks very much for posting.

That is indeed a wonderful collection.

The various Brush Type 2 photos are fascinating, but some of the locations are causing me to pull my hair out because they are 1X.. headcodes which were usually excursions.

There is also a brand new Brush Type 4 with 1M72 headcode at a station with GWR signals. Presumably there must have been two 1M72s, because I only know it as the Harwich to Manchester boat train.

Excellent.

That is quite something indeed. Some amazing photographs there. In particular the ex-LNER Pacifics of all vintages and the B16s. truly fascinating.

Wonderful collection of images. A tribute to your brother for collecting them, and many thanks to you for making them available.

I have not got very far in looking at the 'NE' photos, but if of any help, I offer the following info. :

Hadley Wood station and the adjacent southern portal of Hadley North Tunnel:-
2939-2944, 3073-3089.

Taken from the public footbridge approx. 300 yards south of Oakleigh Park station:-
2945-2956, 2958-2962, 3097, 3098.

Taken from the public footbridge just off the north end of Oakleigh Park station platforms:-
2957, 2965-2967, 3090, 3092-3096, 3099, 3100, 3102-3111.

King's Cross:- 3059.

2969 in "NE Steam", is I think in the wrong folder : -
- The loco has a Stanier look about it, and the location is one of six tracks of which the furthest ones look as if they may have conductor rails, so I would postulate that the scene is somewhere between Wembley and Bushey on the ex-LNWR main line.

Many thanks from Australia. It is a pleasant change to have the chance to see such a diverse collection of photos from the latter days of steam in real everyday traffic. I have really only skimmed the Australian pics so I have long way to go.

What format was the source material and any hints on how you scanned these (negs i assume?) equipment and timewise, perhaps, please.

Pleased that you are enjoying the photographs.

Format of source material - 35 mm b&w negatives
Scanned on Epson V700 Scanner
Timewise - depends on processing power of computer and scan resolution, approx. 5 mins / negative at 4800 dpi in batches of 24 - File size 85 Mb per photo.

These I keep as Masters and I then bulk resize to 1000x600x300dpi for the web site [file size much smaller approx 250Kb]
