Galatea near Leeds today (18-05-13)

Post by Brown Jack »

Hi,

Jubilee 45699 Galatea, taking empty stock 18-05-13 from Carnforth to King's Lynn for a private charter tomorrow. Although it was quite murky and damp, couldn't resist going out for this one.

G'Day Gents

Nice to see Galatea back in action again, how long has she been back in working order ! I know that she was being worked on, but we don't always news like this 'down under'

Last time I saw her was at Barry 40 years ago on a very wet day.

Hi Manna,

Don't know about actual working order, as sometimes we over here don't always get to know.

It has done a couple of test runs around the Carnforth loop, but this was the first time as far as I am aware that it has been out proper, if you know what I mean.

By the way, the last time I saw it was when trainspotting in the fifties, when it was pretty common through where I lived, so it brings back fond memories too.

Hi Trev,

Nice photos as per usual. Surprised to see her in Maroon, although it looks very smart A wonderful restoration job, when you consider she was only bought for spares.

Thanks for posting

Yes, totally unauthentic with the BR number & crest; I reckon that Mr Smith is probably having a bit of fun with the purists. Good for him, he can do what he likes; it is excellent that he has restored it from a really decrepit hulk and he deserves much praise for that.

I totally agree, it is enough for me to see a steam loco running at all.

But it always nice to see an engine in the colour I remember from the fifties, Brunswick Green with a full set of Maroons.
