Yes the north end of Peterborough station circa 1968 i would say.
The s/box was Peterborough North box which closed around the time of the re-modelling of the station in 1973.

For what it's worth in the face of the several similar replies, SS, I also agree with the above. The signals definitely look right to me for PE (single-needle [morse] telegraph code for Peterborough North ), although I didn't know the area as well as I did the one south of Hitchin.
I can't say that i was over familiar with Peterborough north station and the surrounding area but i did manage to visit the old station before re-modelling took during the early 1970s on several occasions between 1969-73.
I recall during the early 1970s riding as a passenger on a down express from Kings Cross to Doncaster one day and stopping at Peterborough north station and on leaving the north station Peterborough north s/box was still there 'switched in' but the signalman appeared to be signalling trains with a set of hand-flags because he was standing at the window with the s/box flags in his hand?. The up main line home signal arm with Cresent Junction's up main line distant signal arm beneath it (as seen in the picture) had both been removed but the bracket signal post was still there and the box was obviously still open?. I think it may have been just prior to Peterborough power box being commissioned.
Not LNER I think, but I found this in the middle of my job lot of slides.
It looks Southern, but I wonder if anyone can recognise the area. The train is mixed with two covered vans a carriage and a brake van. The loco looks to be an Ivatt 2-6-2T.
Hi Iron Duke,may I ask how or what you are using to scan these negs? I have been given several hundred, i think 126 negs, of locos some taken in late fifties and it would be good to see them in positive.
Thats why am asking !!!! Theres one of 60026(?) minus tender in a shed yard possibly Scotland s for a start,a J37 with a straight stovepipe is another in the pile..
Most decent transparency scanners can scan negatives in b/w and colour, as long as they are not too large and the scanner comes with a suitable holder for them.
