Just found the attached among my hundreds of photo's. I pressume it is the "Green Arrow" fitted goods and just north of London. Mick.
Intrested in signalling, P Way, loco's and most railway subjects. Keen model maker etc. presently aiming to model part of Hull, Springhead yard etc.

Rather interesting in that there appears to be no burnished fittings on the smokebox door

Just approaching Finsbury Park station in north London on the down fast line.

The photographer has his back to the south brick wall of Finsbury Park no.3 s/box which is immediately behind him.

... and in those days, just another loco.

Strikes me that in a lot of the pictures I've seen of the 'Green Arrow' (train) and similar workings from the time, the containers always seem to be at the head of the consist. Is that an accident of the way the train has been made up, a deliberate positioning based on loading/unloading facilities or something else?

Funny JW, I was just thinking exactly the same, most shots I see of these (presumably) fast-fitted goods consistently find the conflats at the head of the train and was too wondering why. Hope someone might shed some light on this question....
