North Norfolk Railway Spring Steam Gala - March 2013

Post by steamingyorkshire »

The North Norfolk Railway during their annual Spring Steam Gala held over the weekend 16th and 17th March 2013. Unfortunately the event was dull, cold and windy however didn't detract from some powerful performances from the loco crews.

In service at the gala was GWR 4953 'Pitchford Hall', GWR 4141, BR 92203 'Black Prince', BR 80072, LNER 7564 and 0-6-0ST 1700 'Wissington'.

Yes, I took my father there on Sunday.

He is 89 and loves the gala weekends when there are lots of engines in steam.

It was cold, but with a bit of effort (by me) we managed to create a warm Mk1 despite the best efforts of the less considerate 'enthusiasts' who seem to open every window in a carriage as soon as they enter it.

Black Prince was voted the best for steam heating supplies.

The NNR really do a great gala weekend, with almost more trains than the line can cope with, but although the timetable tends to run late, at least there are trains running at regular intervals, which is what people wish to see.

Well done to everyone on the NNR; it is such a shame that the weather was poor and the advertised standards had to withdraw for one reason or another.

I would have loved to have seen Oliver Cromwell and Britannia working on the same tracks.
John.

Great shots, I was there a year ago to ride on the quads, the J15 and the B12 and had thought that the J15 was out of action now for its ticket? Well its good to see her chuffing along. It was a shame that the Brits had to pull out but then perhaps next year.

The time keeping on the NNR is legendary but the volunteers are so friendly and the whole event such good fun who cares.

Thanks
Simon

Yes, the whole organisation on the NNR galas should be commended.

It was possible to remain on the same set of coaching stock and travel behind every working locomotive on the day, with the exception of "Whissington" which was on the goods train.

I was not expecting to see the J15 in steam, so was delighted when it backed onto our coaches. That was the highlight of my day, as she was working hard to accelerate away with four or five Mk1s in tow.

oh excellent, we got the J15 a couple of times. Here is one shot of the Golden pair b12 and J15 last year:
