Just a quick thought regarding future 60113s (or current ones for that matter). I've picked up a Hornby Thompson bogie off eBay, reused the modified bracket I created, and - voila!
Fits perfectly. Only snag is the screw and nut connector, where I lost the nut initially, but miracously found it again in the carpet. I can't see any more B1 type bogies on eBay at the minute, but there are L1 type bogies (which were the same type, or similar, no?). I have ordered one of the latter in apple green to try fitting to my apple green 60113.

I can see the potential appeal of a bogie that already has the Thompson features as an alternative to the modification of the Hornby Gresley bogie, if you don't mind buying another item. It's a pity about the NEM socket on that one, and are the wheel spokes /boss/rim a good LNER pattern too?
The combination of ever finer flanges on RTR wheels still combined with broad treads to prevent the drop into excessively wide flangeways looks odd if you ask me, but I suppose it is a practical commercial compromise.

It has taken time and ingenuity to do it, but impossible as the task first appeared to me I have nonetheless managed to stuff the much more restrictive bodyshell of GN3 with enough lead to bring the loco weight up to the same 1lb 1oz that I managed more easily with the preceding W1. Wheel rims, axle ends, motion bracket and so on have been coated with primer ready for some black paint too. Tomorrow with any luck I can finalise the colour coats and have a look how the new cabside number transfers are going to work out.
I've even managed to get some weight into the A/2 and its tender at the same time. Not quite a match for GN's weight yet, but there's more room available if needed.

The wheels spokes/boss look good - better than other Thompson interpretations but not as good as a proper after-market set of wheels. The NEM pocket I think can be handled by snipping the end off, filing down and then filling, which I will experiment with in the next week. The bogies on their own were £4 a time so I took a gamble and bought a few to tinker around with. I think, looking at photos, that the L1 type and B1 type are ever so slightly different, but they are still the same length and use the same wheel sets. Minor modifications should make them good enough.

Just waiting for the foundry and brass finishing lads to get some nameplates ready and then this can leave works for handover to the running department:

Looks absolutely splendid Graeme, nicely done.
Yours might have some physical discrepancies Tom, but it's a very nice model all the same, in probably GN's best livery bar the Great Eastern style blue with red lining.

Would be nice one day if we could line up all of our Thompson conversions which used Graeme's parts. I reckon there's maybe eight or nine out there of class A2/2 and A2/3, with five possible A1/1s, and two A2/1s?

An interesting idea in principle, but would we ever agree on the practicaliities such as where and when?
Jim ought to get on with finishing the motorisation of his Gresley non-streamlined 4-8-2 (says he, stirring the muck again), then he (with or without snazzy pink shirt) and Allan could bring a pair of those along too.
I fancy a free cheese (in the Hawes creamery tasting room) and model railways meeting in Wensleydale, close to chez Tom.

I must add my admiration for the latest incarnation of 60113 - lovely work as always Graeme.
I used to look out for nice kit-built locos on eBay to increase the variety of my collection, but with RTR and GK/GK-inspired conversions being so astoundingly good, there are very few kit-built locos that come up that can hold a candle to them.

Here, doing his best not to look like a freshly dipped toffee apple, although struggling on account of today's peculiar determination of my sprayed satin varnish to dry SHINY, is El Presidente himself. A dose of weathering will help in due course:
And with no prospect now of delivery of pukka nameplates in time for cutting out and fitting prior to the weekend, The Board have sanctioned the temporary fitting of some printed substitute plates to GN3:

Transfer nameplates actually look quite good...I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it on 60113!
