NERly, Harrison Wedges/Facing Point Lock.

For many years the NERly, used "Harrison Wedges in lue of a conventional "Facing Point Lock Bolt". Picture of a typical layout attached, does anyone know what was inside the wooden box to left of picture? I have no idea when the last one was taken out of use and replaced by a conventional bolt. Mick.
Intrested in signalling, P Way, loco's and most railway subjects. Keen model maker etc. presently aiming to model part of Hull, Springhead yard etc.
