Is there a pub still outside the station entrance these days?.
Sadly not mate. The Dolphin closed about ten years ago, the next nearest pub, The Plough, closed about ten years before that and now the nearest alehouse is The Lord Haig (but you need to show your ASBO to gain admission :-( ).

The guy along the platform was OK, I cadged a light off him 'cos I'd run out of matches and fancied breaching Railway Bye Laws by having a quick drag before the train arrived!

Ha! McMullens' fame must've spread far and wide, then. From Kelso, eh? Long way to come for a pint of No. 1. :D

Now, don't start winding me up about Pukka Pies. And a pint of McMullen's would wash it down nicely.

Went to Hertford East the other week during the daytime and although the layout is a shadow of it's former self I was pleasantly surprised to see the overall state of the concourse.

The former yard looks a bit sad. Has it been sold off and the developers haven't yet got the funds to do anything with it?

The 315 set I travelled in on looked very down at heel and it had the usual PEP stock winter problem - no heat.

I seem to remember hearing (regrettably I never visited) that it was in Hertford East box where there was a 'welcome' of a rather different kind; - in the form of a prominent note placed, either on the Notice Board or somewhere else, in such a way as to be as unmissable as possible to visitors, and which read :

'Next time you're just passing by, please do.' :)
