DONCASTER YORK ROAD, HB and GC Joint Line.

Post by micknich2003 »

I'm seeking information on the signalling at York Road and also the opening and closing dates of the signalbox. Any information including photographs or signalling plans of interest. Many Thanks, Mick.
Intrested in signalling, P Way, loco's and most railway subjects. Keen model maker etc. presently aiming to model part of Hull, Springhead yard etc.

Hi...I have rarely seen photographs and the two in Railway Bylines, Vol 5, issue 5 (April 2000) show no signals or even a box, though plainly there must've been boxes etc at the ends of the triangular junctions with the H+B.

According to the photo descriptions, the station opened in May 1916, known until 1923 as Doncaster (Goods), never host to a regular passenger service. It was seasonally used for excursions to Hull Fair, at least the largest fair in the North. The station was closed officially on the 1st February 1965. The photographs show a very generous and tidy station, with 2 platforms.

You can almost certainly obtain the magazine copy from the Vintage Carriage Trust at Ingrow West on the KWVR.

Good luck, Jim

The attached shows that York Road once had signals.
The Hull Fair excursion was run from Wath, the Joint Line never saw a passenger train. Best Wishes, Mick.
