I'm loving some of the modelling of these 'might have beens' - superb
Regarding BP, yes, she did eventually return to the main line - I was on her first trip back - Middlesbrough - Hartlepool - Sunderland - Gateshead - Carlisle - Preston (cannot be repeated now, as not even 'light steam' is permitted 'under the Metro wires'), & also on her last main line run in mid-2001. Crewe - Carlisle - Hexham - Darlington. She hooked off at Darlo & ran light to Grosmont. She did another year or so on the NYMR, then withdrawn from service when her (extended) boiler certificate ran out. She had a period on display at North Road, Darlington, where I saw her last, then was moved by road to Barrow Hill when the refurbishment at North Road commenced. She's still at Barrow Hill, now in Apple green. I do hope that she eventually gets another shot at a main line career, but I suspect that may be just a dream
I saw Blue Peter at North Road when my dad was looking at the Hush-Hush apprentice model for paint confirmation. I'd never been before and was fascinated by the place. I don't think we'll ever see her in steam again, certainly not on the mainline, as there are just too many others to choose from already in working order (I use that term loosely concerning some of them though), but you never know...

My first memory of the NYMR was turning up in the car at Pickering and being stopped at the level crossing - first car in the queue with a perfect view of the track. We heard a whistle and naturally, wound the windows down (ah the good old days with the Ford Escort ) and Blue Peter rolled in with a train from Grosmont. That day was the only time I saw 60532 and 60007 in steam at the same time, meeting at Goathland.
The second visit to the NYMR was for 60532's last train to Grosmont. The return trip to Pickering was courtesy of 75014 'Braveheart'
Had a thought at work (hold on, not paid to think) and started to wonder about Ian Beattie's 4mm drawings that used to pop up in Railway Modeller and the like. Does anyone know if they ever turned up in combined volumes - i.e. Loco's, Coaches and Other Rolling Stock?

There is also one on the GWR not mentioned in the list - the publisher is D. Bradford Barton at start of the '80s. The LNER book has drawings of the 02, K3, J39, J50, D49, A3, B17, V1, P2, A4, V2, K4, B1, L1 and A2 (Peppercorn). Basically the same as the RM drawings and descriptions, but with a few additional small drawings on locomotive and tender details.
Hey, this is interesting. The only Ian Beattie drawings book I'm aware of is "Drawn and described", published by Peco in 2001. The LNER locos in that are: N2, Director, Claud, Raven pacific, Reid atlantic, J39, V2, K3, B1, and Peppercorn A1.
Do you have a reference for the LNER book to which you refer?

If you do get it I would be very careful to check the detail since there were a number of simple errors in the series, often because a 'representative' loco was drawn rather than one with a number and stated date.

That is so very true. Point in case being my R-M model - started building it based on the only three views I knew of (two of them being front three-quarter shots) and as I near the end more details turn up, such as the offset safety valves and smokebox end paraphernalia. A modeller (or even an artist) can never have too many photographs of their subject.

In conjunction with BB's back to basics thread, I took a few pictures of how I deal with a coupled rake of coaches and makers differences. I'm posting this here rather than taking over his thread any more than I have already. This is my rake of 7-Pullmans (6 Bachy and 1 Hornby).

I had a little accident yesterday... my Reid-MacLeod decided to take flying lessons off of the top of a low bookcase. Damage at first looked worse than it is, but I have yet to test the motor and see if the chassis is salvageable. I seem to have lost the lighting due to a break in the wiring, oh well it could have been worse.
