Tommy's site above has some details.
Greeny 10A page 43 lists 739/40/2/4/7-51/4 allocated to Heaton in October 1942 to work to Edinburgh on goods trains.

I have extracted the info which is from the Railway Observer in 1943.
March edition stated that SR King Arthurs have been noted on many occasions between Hull & Edinburgh. 742 Camelot, 744 Maid of Astolot, 749 Iseult & 750 Morgan Le Fay have been seen in Hull on freight traffic.
August edition talks about enginge transfers taking place in the North East due to the return of the King Arthurs to the Southern & the arrival of USA 2.8.0s.
Hope this is of interest to you.
regards
Graham

The request came from the LNER in October 1942 and the SR, under pressure of the Ministry of War Transport, sent 10 Urie N15s
739 King Leodgrance
740 Merlin
742 Camelot
744 Maid of Astolat
747 Elaine
748 Vivien
749 Iseult
750 Morgan le Fay
751 Etarre
754 The Green Knight
They were stationed at Heaton and mainly employed on goods to Edinburgh, Leeds, Starbeck, Hull and Doncaster. They did also appear on passenger trains. As they were in the common pool they were manned by crews from Gateshead, Tweedmouth, York, St. Margarets etc.
When the USA 2-8-0s became available they were returned in July 1943.
The above information is taken from D L Bradley’s book LSWR Locomotives.

Stored SR Locos
Thank you 73D our paths keep crossing can i ask you another SR related LNER question. My grandfather took me to his place of work (52D) to show me two stored SR locos one was a D class what was the other.
I believe the D is now on the Bluebell line.

It seems 52A has more or less answered the question. The D (may I say perhaps the best looking locomotive when in full SECR livery ever built) was sent to Ashford for cosmetic restoration and left on 27th June 1960 by low loader to Clapham Museum. It is now of course resident in the NRM, York, although it did come back south for a short spell as a static exhibit on the Bluebell.

The 'D' is the Wainwright-designed loco; the Adams loco is a T3 - both these locos are now in the NRM, as mentioned/hinted above. For more Southernry, try www.semgonline.com for a reasonable guide to SR locos - go to the 'picture gallery' - doesn't cover all the smaller and obscurer classses.
That exact 'D' is the reason I chose this nom-de-plume - not very relevant on an LNER site, I know ... as it was involved in a runaway-train-style situation on the line I grew up near (the ex-SECR Reading-Redhill line).
I'll stop before this goes completely off-piste.

Re: LNER & King Arthurs
Are there any photos of Arthurs working into Edinburgh or beyond?
I believe O.S. Nock mentioned their being cleared as far as Glasgow although they may not actually have gone there.

Re: LNER & King Arthurs
Pictures of Arthurs working on the LNER in war time would have been rare. Wernt some Arthurs built by NBL you might have better luck of them being pictured in transit after construction.
