Newark Flyover

Post by Pyewipe Junction »

Sorry to be so out of touch on this, but has work started on the Newark Flyover?

Wasn't it supposed to be completed in 2008?

No replies on this yet.

I'm suprised no-one knows what (if anything) is going on at Newark.

I live fairly close and have not noticed anything happening. Like you I read that it was scheduled for completion in 2008. I used to commute to Nottingham and was never comfortable crossing the main line! There's also a bridge for the Nottingham / Lincoln line over the Trent that must be about ready for replacement. I think that it has been put into the "TOO EXPENSIVE" file at the moment.

Not sure if it's an indication of work starting but the lineside shrubbery on the west side of the flat crossing has been pretty much eliminated by workmen over the last couple of weeks. Nothing about it in the local paper though (but that's not unusual)!
I walk the dog in this area most days and can't see where they'll put the gradient required in, especially on the west side. Clever chaps these civil engineers though so I hope I get pleasantly surprised.

it is an offence i believe to cut down trees or trim /prune hedgerows between march and august as it is the main nesting season

There are no plans to build a Newark Flyover in this Control Period (4) to 31 March 2014. Easr Coast infrastructure upgrades are - Ho;gate Jn 4 tracking (complete) F Park - A Palace use of freight lines by local services, Hitchin Flyover, P'bro extra platforms, Joan Croft - Shaftholme Flyover and GN-GE Jt upgrade for freight are the other schemes -all of which will be finished in 2014.

There are emerging plans for CP5 to 31 March 2019 but none of these include Newark There are more important sites for congestion - eg Doncaster (but that may not be on the list either) some or all 4 tracking Huntington - P'bro is one quite likely to happen But not as much as this CP

The DfT, NR & ORR approach is all about capacity - and none are really interested in that East Coast speciality -reducing journey time IEP might start that again in 2018!

Not my neck o' the woods, but can't they prioritise traffic through there in favour of the main line? I'm sure that must have been the case back in the day. That's a lot of expense just to keep every train on the move.
