Re: Apple green Deltic
It had been planned in late 1960 to paint the first production Deltic D9000 in LNER Apple Green. A sample panel with black and white lining was sent to Vulcan Foundry, however the lining was to be omitted. On 25th October 1960 with the loco already partly painted in Apple Green the instruction to cease was received in favour of BR Green which itself was soon altered to two tone green.

Re: Apple green Deltic
I recall them running in 2 tone green livery during the mid/late 1960s but i always thought that they carried the 'British Rail blue' livery with full yellow ends during the whole of the 1970s very well.
Why does everyone want to paint steam & diesel locos in different colours to wot they actually run in nowadays?.
I once saw a Deltic in private ownership about 12 years ago running in a all over mauve livery, i don't know wot was the point of that was for?????.

Re: Apple green Deltic
If I recall correctly, that particular Deltic was under the ownership of the Porterbrook group and was painted in their corporate colours. I can't remember which one it was though.

Anything weird or unusual will catch my interest, be it an express or locomotive
I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

Phew. That's a relief. I've always wondered what one of those looked like, having a sneaking suspicion that I might bear a close personal resemblance.....Micky wrote:It looked like an abomination unto the Lord!!.Manxman1831 wrote:If I recall correctly, that particular Deltic was under the ownership of the Porterbrook group and was painted in their corporate colours. Two-tone green with small yellow warning panel is my favourite.

Thanks for a super pic. Great Loco. Good location (for those with certain eccentric sympathies). Height of summer, too, I see....

(Edit: I just noted the website screed: the thought of a Deltic at the actual holy corner is mind-bending to say the least. How would they have got it past Tolcross?)

I could'nt agree more regarding the two tone green with small yellow ends.
I took a pal of mine up to KX many years and a couple of marriages later to just see and hear the Deltics as he was a speed freak and loved all things mechanical.
I just cannot describe my disappointment when we arrived on the platform and I was confronted by what I thought was now an ugly slab sided locomotive, It must have been in the last year or so of their service at KX so were'nt looking to well looked after.
As regards the colour scheme as far as I'm concerned its a case of " Two Tone Green, The Best You've Ever Seen!"
Its best to be seen in two tone green
Re: Apple green Deltic
Quite agree KX6465, chucking buckets of blue paint over everything did nothing for their looks!

Re: Apple green Deltic
PP you have hit the nail on the head blue did make them look fat, maybe I will have to stop wearing denim in a bid to look slimmer. Two tone green small yellow panels best livery for them.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
