4469 & 4496

Post by Iron Duke »

Following on from the "Double Headed" topic I have turned up these two scrapbook pics, identified in pencil only as 4469 Gadwall & 4496 Golden Shuttle.
Again, locations and approx dates would be fantastic, any knowledgeable guesses.........

That's how 60008 should be, with 4496 on her cabsides and 'Golden Shuttle' on the smokebox.

4469 is climbing to Potters Bar, see pages 21 and 26 (upper) LNER Album Volume One. The light is similar too; so which service?

.... definitely.

4496 is on the Down 'Main' (Fast) at Hornsey; Hornsey No.1 signal box part in/out of shot, extreme right at the south end of the Down platform, with Ferme Park North Down box slightly to its left in background. (What about the size of that posters hoarding on the Up platform!) But as to date .... ?

4469 must be summer/early autumn 1938. The name changed in March 1939.

4496. Not sure it is possible to be more precise than late 1937-1939?
