Whatever, Simon Kohler has given is a useful loco - if only they made un-named un-numbered versions
Not sure it would do well for Steam locomotives, but in any event renumbering and renaming isn't hugely difficult. Bachmann did do an unnumbered B1 once - that didn't sell very well as I recall.
I remember seeing this mentioned in the modelling press a little while ago. I think the problem is that with many locomotive classes, the variations in detail and livery are such a potential minefield that, were manufacturers to do 'blank' locos, soon there would be complaints that it wasn't 'right' (a subjective term if ever I saw one) for the name/number a given individual wanted. Rock, hard place. Easier to use their research to produce models they know or believe to be accurate, even if despite best intentions this doesn't always happen.

Apparently the term CKD came from the motor industry where cars that were exported were Completely Knocked Down for reassembly after shipping abroad. Perhaps someone on here has an old catalogue that describes my rusty memories better.
Oh my goodness, yes. Triang CKD models.

I am sure they did coaches as well, because they were the only ones that I could have possibly afforded.

See, http://www.forsythe.demon.co.uk/Images/ ... ng_CKD.htm

It is amazing to bring back these memories.

CKD coaches - yes I'm sure there were - "teak" Thompson types I seem to remember - roof, floor with two ends and two sides held together with two long bolts! Thanks for info on the B17's - think I might save for a B17/6 although somewhere upstairs is one of the old tender drive version with the 4200gal tender.

Further to previous postings about the arrival of Thorpe Hall - has anybody actually managed to acquire Sandringham yet, or are we still waiting for another crate to be opened and distributed?

I've yet to see one. Does anyone know if Hornby will do the B17/4 or am I going to have to get hold of a tender separately? I plan to re-number it anyway...

Hi, I received my Sandringham from Hattons last Saturday, and it is sublime. I am really pleased with it I can tell you. Well worth the wait now it's here.

You'd have to do a bit of mixing and matching I believe. Hornby has all of the components for one - the group standard tender plus the original boiler type, but as far as I can see, the closest is the B17/6 with the group standard tender we have, so you'd need to swap tenders over with the B17/1 with the GER tender (also giving a B17/6 with a GER tender which according to my notes is only correct for 2830/61630 Tottenham Hotspur in 1948-58).

:o No not the dreaded Spurs! Well, could be worse, be be the tractor boys. I quite like the GER tender.

Hmm....

*light bulb*

Does anyone have or know of any decent photos/drawings of the tenders with extended-height side sheets as fitted to the B17/5s?

(That light bulb could prove expensive)

Im sure the money grabbing Duchess of Northumberland will have an Alnwick Castle special to sell alongside the rest of the tat in Alnwick Garden.
I stand up for the Monarchy but not the hangers on lol.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Golden Arrow models do have the B17/5 as a full kit, complete with a tender body of that type. Applied to the new model, could be quite interesting results, but I don't know how different the tender drive model is from the correct length new model (so be warned, what may be designed for one may not be designed for another).

I've just been told my Sandringham is on its way. If anyone does wants some detailed photographs of the model, let me know. Mine is in the second batch of those supplied to a certain Liverpool boxshifter.

Sandringham has just arrived. I am in the process of unboxing it. Can't remember being this excited about a model since the Thompson L1 first touched down!

I am overjoyed with my Sandringham. It appears spot on in all respects to me, and I trust by the lack of fuss on it's arrival that others are quietly satisfied. I like the revised packaging too. Certainly worth the wait - well done Hornby.
