Midland Rly engines at Starbeck shed

Post by YNMR »

I came across a snippet of information recently about the Midland Railway stabling two engines at Starbeck shed nr Harrogate from the late 1880s until September 1928. does anyone know about this at all? & I wonder why it continued until 1928?

The NER had a similar arrangement at Haymarket with the NBR and i think the building used was always referred to as the North Eastern shed.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Wouldn't be anything to do with the Joint line Arthington - Ilkley?
Nearest convenient location for a shed bearing in mind services.

the joint line service could be a possability. i have been told it was also in connection with a Harrogate - Bradford service but I have not checked this out yet.

Wouldn't a Harrogate - Bradford service have taken the joint line?

Yes that sounds probable that a Bradford service would take the joint line. I wonder why the MR engines would continue to be stabled at Starbeck until 1928 some 5yrs after Grouping?
