Thompson Corridor Third 1623
The LNER Coach Association are approaching the final stages of restoration of the sole surviving Dia 329 Thompson TK 1623 at Pickering, with the interior being reconstructed. An order is about to be placed for new luggage rack castings for it. With 56 needed at around £50 each, the Association has launched a "Sponsor a Bracket" appeal. Details can be found on the LNERCA website, www.lnerca.org which also has the facility to make donations by Paypal.

Whilst at Pickering last Sunday doing a bit of work on the afore mentioned coach, Sawdust had a selection of pictures showing Thompson Compartments which he was using for reference. A puzzling thing came to light about compartment mirrors, there can be two types of mirror in a Thompson compartment, one with a Bakelight frame and the other a frameless version held in place four chrome clips. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason of which type was fitted when as pictures of both square and round corner window versions had both mirrors fitted. Does anybody know why there was two types?
Sawdust, what coach numbers are on the back of the examples we have would this provide a clue?

The second batch of seats are installed now. I've put them in compartments one and two, as people looking round want to go left for some reason. Photos here:

Also of note is that last week saw the last of the brown Treadmaster fitted, leaving only the red to go down in the toilet compartments.
Finally it is work weekend this weekend if anybody would like to get involved, look around, make a donation!

Indeed yes, LNERCA spent quite some time researching the pattern for the new moquette used as there isn't a large sample in existance to the knowledge of the Association and the makers Holdsworths and their successor [who they merged with, the name of whom I can't remember] had lost the record card. The NRM didn't have any or a large enough sample, either in their moquette book [it's rather like those sample books you see in carpet shops with carpet samples]. So a computer generatred pattern was created using various photos in order to get the right pattern. Holdsworths then produced a few samples for LNERCA to choose. And the choosen sample was then produced in "bulk". Over the years they've [Holdsworths] proved useful as when aproached for moquette for the TTO's and BTO on the Moors they came up trumps as when LNERCA asked [as they had the requsit catalogue number] and the reply in return was, "Yes, which colour do you want green or brown?"Dave wrote:Thanks for the update.

Not only that, but the LNERCA is about to take delivery of an earlier pattern "fawn rep" for which there was no sample available and it had to be recreated entirely from photos. Look out for it in BTK 3669 before too long!

Any chance of an anticipatory glimpse of "fawn rep?" I'm building carriages just now and I've gone for a mid-ochre type colour as a representation of "fawn rep." Is that miles out?
