Help with a book

Post by sir visto »

Some years ago I had a book ( now long gone) relating the experiences of a man on the LNER. He may have been a journalist but he must have had influence because he relates in detail a journey on the footplate of a Kings Cross - Leeds express hauled by 2506 Salmon Trout. I can't remember the name of the book so that is what I'm after. Not much information, I'm afraid, but that's all I can recall.

Can anyone help ?

I'm afraid not. The book was in narrative form without the wealth of technical data that Nock included. It was more of an enthusiasts book (which I presume that the writer was). It was a very good read though.

I have a very tatty copy of a booklet called On the Footplate by AJ Cresswell which describes the Kings X to Leeds journey in great detail, however the loco concerned is Silver Link, could this be the one? It's an interesting little book covering all sorts of aspects of the working of steam locos.

I'm afraid not - the locomotive was definitely Salmon Trout. However, the book sounds interesting. I'll look for it on Abe Books.
