First time I've seen this. I had a mental block on the name of 4479, the conqueror's father, but I reckon I got the other 14 on the original list. Can I now have the cut Caithness glass trophy and a place in obscure TV history?
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Come on Graham, I can see you need a clue to this easy question. It's BR number added up to eight. Some chance of winning the trophy. Although the Bank near Barnsley got me, I had the Yorkshire Bank PLC.

I thought most of the questions were relatively easy.

When the programme appears on catch-up I will look at it again and let you know the questions and his name, if I can.

The contestants name was Brian O'Donnell

The questions (some slightly cut short to save typing) were:-

H N Gresley was born in Jun 1876 in which city?

Which public school did Gresley attend before taking up an LNWR apprenticeship?

What is the name of the incline between Grantham and Peterborough where Mallard set a record speed for a steam locomotive?

Who joined Gresley as his technical assistant in 1912 and remained with Gresley until replacing Maunsell at the SR?

On which locomotives introduced in 1928 for the GE section was different from other Gresley designs - the outside cylinders drove the middle pair of wheels and the middle cylinder drove the leading pair?

In which town was the locomotive shed where Gresley worked as foreman in 1900? It was while he was there that he met his future wife.

What nickname was given to Gresley's experimental 4 cylinder 4-6-4 compound number 10000 completed in 1929 because it was designed and built in considerable secrecy?

Gresley opened discussions about building a train for the London - Newcastle service after travelling on a German diesel express train in 1934, what was the name of that train?

What name was transferred from the former NBR Atlantic and given to the first of Gresley's P2 Mikados No 2001?

What was the cylinder stroke of the 2-8-0s introduced in 1913 by Gresley for the GNR and classified as O1, and later O3 by the LNER?

The six P2 Mikados were designed for heavy express traffic between which two cities via Dundee?

What was the name of the Elizabethan mansion near St Albans that Gresley went to live in after the death of his wife in 1929?
Answer to last question is Salisbury Hall near London Colney, just south of St. Albans. It was there that the design team (my late father was one of it) was based for the building of the first two of the Mosquito aircraft in 1940. The prototype Mosquito is still there as part of the Mosquito Aircraft Museum. See their website for more information.

Great museum, three complete Mossies in one place, wow! I saw a suggestion, probably wikipedia, that Gresley named 'Mallard' after seeing said type of duck in the pond at Salisbury Hall. Wonder if there were many Woodcocks and Silver Foxes too....
