Re: Steam on the underground in 2013
I was actually at NEASDEN L.T. DEPOT in June 1971 for the END of STEAM on the London Underground event. There was x2 ex-GWR RED PANNIER TANKS 'in steam' for a special final run down from MOORGATE to NEASDEN DEPOT hauling a train of brake vans.
NEASDEN L.T. DEPOT was certainly packed with well-wisher's to send off the last 2 RED PANNIERS that afternoon.

G'Day Gents
I was there to Micky, a friend and I went first to The Barbican station where we took some photos of the LT pannier tank, then we traveled out to Neasden, and boy was it packed.

Re: Steam on the underground in 2013
The last time I remember seeing steam on the LU I thought was later than June 1971. I was waiting for a Circle Line train Eastbound at Liverpool Street and we were asked to stand back while 'an old steamer' came through. It was a pannier with several goods wagons and a BV but I am not sure if it went to Aldgate or the Met. I seem to think it was about 1973 but I could be wrong. I particularly remember the oil lamp showing in the tunnel as it approached and thinking 'I don't believe it!'
