Despite no updates for a while I have kept up the work on the layout-drudgery mostly, reinforcing legs, pinning and glueing the top etc but it is now ready for varnishing to ensure long term stability. The tops will get a few coats of grey or brown undercoat as well. With luck,I may be in a popsition to commence tracklaying in the New Year but I think I will treat myself to a loco build before that starts.I have been reasonably disciplined so far and deserve a treat!
This is the viewing end.It is now largely walkaround but I may fill in the gap between the LH peninsular board and the wall board with removable scenic boards eventually.
This is the view from the other end,the narrow corridor is for maintainance rather than viewing.
The forest of legs.Think of the fun I'm going to have crawling around there with a varnish brush! This really is a weird hobby.........
At long last-Robs layout gets underway!

Some more progress here too-the basic baseboards are now finished,3 coats of varnish underneath,2 coats undercoat on top.Hopefull the bland brown colour will compensate for the bare sections as construction will be very slow!
I think I have it reasonably covered Bullhead-nothing should ever be so tedious again ! Cheers all,
Rob

Hi Bass, ahem, yes, rather weird,it was originally a duck-under but after some cruel experiments on my octogenarian father I took his advice to eliminate it!As the layout is end to end anyway his point was far better to have an easy central walkway than ducking every time you fogot a screwdriver etc.He was absolutely correct, its already saved much irritation.
The narrow room means I will be using quite tight radii at the ends but these sections will be in tunnels.Trackplan will simply be developed from my existing layout which is great fun to operate, though I will strive for a bit more realism here!I did some test running this week and stock will manage the curves easily, but it does mean I have to continue to build locos that can negociate 3rd radius.
This is a long term project and no doubt there are a good few setbacks ahead,so any comment or advice is most welcome at any time!Mrs Rob arrived up one night, took one look around and gloomily observed"We'll never move now I suppose!"
