Help Needed

Post by kelpjungle »

Hi. My uncle was station master at Amble, Northumberland as was his father before him. I recovered the old station clock from one of his out houses and was looking for information on what the number on the face refers to and on it's current value. I know that clocks sell for in excess of £1000 when fully restored but i have not found anything like this one online. Due to the damp the workings are fully rusted. I do have the pieces of surround which have fallen off and the casing on the back is complete. I understand the clock is from when the station opened in 1850 and the adhesives were added when the 24 hour clock was introduced. Any help appreciated and I will also consider any realistic offers. I would like to see it find a good home with a lner enthusiast rather than sell it to a dealer.

You should be able to get some information about this clock's history from the National Railway Museum where they have the register of LNER clocks. The research and enquiries page of their website is http://www.nrm.org.uk/ResearchAndArchiv ... iting.aspx . If you follow the directions there and send them an email to search.engine@nrm.org.uk quoting the clock number LNER 10935 they should get back to you. The information can be quite brief, however.
