I have reposted my original question from "General Chat" to (hopefully) an area of the Forum that is applicable......
I remember standing on the road bridge south of Peascliffe Tunnel at the time when the Deltics were first introduced. (circa 1962 - 1965??) Pullman coaches and all that.......
After a procession of diesels, along the main line came a (named) light engine, either H.A. Ivatt or W.P.Allen or something similar with "initials" in the nameplate. The engine had front end damage, perhaps a bent buffer beam or something similar.
Not even sure of the direction of travel, but my question is can anyone tie this in with a recorded movement (damaged) of either these locomotives at the approx dates above? I would love to confirm what it was and the date.
Many thanks in anticipation.......
H.A. Ivatt or W.P Allen ?

60123 H A Ivatt, was involved in a collision about that time, and was the first A1 to be withdrawn.

Re: H.A. Ivatt or W.P Allen ?
Thanks Manna,
I do remember the locomotive in steam (light engine) at the time, would this have been possible if it was H.A. Ivatt, post the accident?
Not sure what extent the damage was in the collision.
I have just googled a search for an image and the result shows the front end damage to be very bad (worse than I recall on the loco I saw)
The front wheels have been removed so if it was H.A. I suppose this could have been later.........?

A very good question, how do you move a 150 odd ton locomotive, that's been in a bit of a ding ?? Diesels were towed to works, after a ding, but would the authorities, allowed a Pacific with front end damage to travel by it's self down the mainline.
I have seen diesel locos moved on skates, if they had really bad flats (on there wheels) could you move a Pacific that way !!!

Re: H.A. Ivatt or W.P Allen ?
That does seem to be slightly more than the bent bufferbeam mentioned by the OP.
I suppose that the loco must have been involved in a minor depot collision, for it to be sent to Doncaster l/e under its own power, and the fact that it had also been in somewhat bigger accidents is just coincidence.
At least it seems sensible to rule out A H Peppercorn, which was Aberdeen based for most of its life.
