You had me worried there that I'd have to join Blackout in the queue for the Opticians!
Still think it could be on the G.W.R./L.N.E.R. Joint lines BB?. :?

The ballast looks very G.W.R. to me?.

No books with me but could the loco have been allocated down Aylsebury - Princes Risborough way, that would explain the signal/coach conundrum Although im still in favour of a Yorkshire location.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

I am equally puzzled as to where is its train!
From the headlamp, it appears that it has run a stopping train, boiler first and I assumed that it would be running round its train for the return bunker first. But I can't see a cross over or a train. Hmm.

The running lines are the 2 tracks to the left of the loco. Up Nearest.
The loco is sat on the sidings outside the loco shed at Malton.
The station would be behind the camera to the left including the Bay platform used for Whitby services.
Take a look at the Wolds Railway website feature on Malton station.

Thanks for that. Obviously a lazy fireman not bothering to move the lamp to the light engine position when he uncoupled.
First thing I did was take a lamp, uncouple, put lamp in middle on buffer beam then to the front end and have that lamp in the middle. No longer puzzled.
