Updates will follow, fairly shortly. I'm afraid I've had no energy for the last fortnight owing to having too many non-modelling jobs on my plate, and a heavy cold just to add to the fun. I'll have to do a "touch" of tidying up before I get on with more modelling now (shovel and more storage units required, if truth be known ), but I hope that won't take too long!

I really ought to have been working on master and moulds for the rear underpinnings of the resin W1 by now, but the fatigue from that f-cold has been hanging on and I didn't trust myself to think clearly enough to do a good job. I did however develop some enthusiasm for at least one piece of useful work last night, which continued this evening, the product of which is a fairly passable basic A2/2 body for 503 to 506, as first rebuilt - properly trimmed, tidied and stuck together rather than the tape-and-blue-tack mock up that I perched on my A2/3 chassis a few pages back. I'll produce a picture or two in due course.

Before I go off to see whether the lighting structure for Leeds Central actually fits(!), here are the promised pictures.
As you can see, sitting on the borrowed chassis of my Steady Aim, this demo assembly of parts for 503-6 isn't yet besmokedeflectored (can I copyright that new word?) and because I used the open-bottomed Margate A1 moulding as the core for the test body, there's a prodigous amount of unwanted daylight above the running plate, most of which can actually be filled in. Only the coned part of the boiler need have any cut-out for the motor/gearbox, rising to a mere 1mm above the running plate level, a gap that could either be ignored or blanked off with some discrete shallow skirting. The inboard parts of the running plate would need completing too.
In cleaning off the unwanted features of the RHD Margate boiler moulding, fitting the new smokebox, looking at the body on the chassis and comparing things with a RHD Chinese T/D body, I'm now tempted to conclude that despite the horrible seam that needs to be eliminated from the boiler side, and two steps in the level of the boiler top that would need filling and smoothing, the Chinese body might actually be a better starting point. Its boiler is internally round, not slab sided like the Margate item, so the new smokebox should plug-in/align/bond more satisfactorily, there's less moulded rubbish like ejector pipe and firebox handrails to clean off the boiler surface (which will I hope be better/flatter than the Margate one overall which I found to have lots of dips that only became apparent as I started cleaning off details), the dome is correct, and there wouldn't actually be too much of the under-boiler to cut away to accept the motor - although the splashers might be a little more awkward to take off without causing damage elsewhere. The two kinds of un-finished body seem equally cheap as spares at present anyway. Here's as much motor cut out as I reckon you'd need:
So there's another temptation for anybody modelling the York or Peterborough areas in the fifties. If the good people of Wensleydale keep spending their brass on model railways, it's no wonder those "Prussian" rugs in Bedale don't sell......
Here's an interesting comparison for the few who haven't yet found it anyway:

I'm saying nothing Graeme.....although is it any wonder I'm being tempted with Tim on Rmweb and yourself on here. I do like the A2/2s...Atlantic 3279 wrote:

I can see a way to do an a2/1 without buying a nucast or pdk kit.

Yep, same as the A2/2 but bring the cab and rear steps forward by 4 or 5mm, eliminate the extra side-vents on the cab roof, put the new fittings on the firebox in the appropriate positions and Bob's your uncle. Sourcing the correct tenders for the various A2/1 and A2/2 locos is another challenge of course, but if you mix and match your RTR items on a large enough scale, there's probably a devious way to produce all of the locos you might want with minimal waste.

I was thinking of using a bachmann v2 body as the base for the a2/1 with corrected boiler, for the chassies maybe sef a2 or a bachmann a2 chassie moderfied.Plus your resin and eatched parts with either a hornby, bachmann tender failing that a sef a2 tender.

The method is always a matter of personal preference. If you need parts, let me know. I wonder whether the work on a V2 shell, by the time you've corrected the boiler, is actually any easier than removing A3 splashers and changing the cab. The compatibility of the resin front running plate piece with the Bachmann V2 moulding is of course un-tested.

More than one way to get the end resault, you have still to sort out the chassies and i looked at alan gibson and they do an a2/1 for the nu-cast kit. Dose anyone know how do alan gibson kits go to geather.

The kits are complex and not for the beginner. I suspect you're looking at his mainframes list? In which case you get just that, nothing else. If you're going for that option, be aware that his OO frame spaces suit his wheels. If you want to use Romford or similar wheels use Comet frame spacers. You're on your own for valve gear as well.
