I checked that for myself too, probably at the same time as you did. At least the "official line" is still the same, but only time will tell.....

Dec. 2018: Almost all images that disappeared from my own thread following loss of free remote hosting are now restored.

Could we see a b2 or k1 and a k4 a few years down the line from hornby, I do hope so.

Not meaning to do a wish list, but surely Hornby are more likely the source of a K1. L1 valve gear and wheel size (I think) O1 cab and B1 tender. Certainly would be a beauty if up to the standard of the L1 and B1. :)

B1 tender for K1, fair enough, if the appropriate electric lighting is fiited/absent. Take care regarding the valve gear - allow for the fact that the wheelbases may not match up. Not the O1 cab though, as it may look similar but the O1 (or B1 for that matter) cab is shorter front to rear than the K1 cab which is descended via the K4 from the long GS version of the K3 cab.

Recieved notification today from Hattons that B17 is on its way. I can't believe it.

Nor can I, given Hattons' (lack of) performance on the O1 and the Thompson brake 3rd. They really ought not to advertise material as "in stock" when it is not. And they ought also to return your hard-earned cash with the "rejection slip", not some undeclared amount of time later.

Well if the B1 body fits the B17 chassis OK then we are off to a start with the B2!
Hornby at least should be able to produce 1671(61671) 'Royal Sovereign' without too much difficulty.

Evening gents, long time no appear I know but I'm getting back towards modelling again. Anyway, it's funny you say that, Hattons used to very vocal and proud of their policy of not advertising anything that was not yet in stock, 'unlike some other retailers' as they said. I think that went south when the online business took off.
What do you get when you cut an avocado into 6.022 x10^23 pieces?

Further to my earlier post, can any expert out there say whether Hornby's Thorpe Hall has the original boiler - which it sould have according to my Ian Allen abc for 1956/7 or is it the B1 type? If the original boiler, then what have they put on Grimsby Town, which according to the same source should have a B1 type. Somehow I doubt Hornby made two mouldings. Whatever, Simon Kohler has given is a useful loco - if only they made un-named un-numbered versions - I need (need?) another....sure Leeds United years ago came with alternative stick-on names.

In the same days of yore mode, my original Brush class 31 cost me 37/6 - new one over £100 - better, I'm sure but what a difference. The 45/- B12 still runs well though! Good old X04 motors.

Thorpe Hall
is listed as a B17/2 on Hornby's website, and has the original boiler. The Grimsby Town model is a B17/6 and has the 100A boiler.
Somehow I doubt Hornby made two mouldings.


A quick glance at here and here will show the washout plugs are correct for classes B17/1 and B17/6 (thereby proving the boiler types).

Both of the B17s I have seen in the flesh recently were of the B17/6 variety however a quick look at Hatton's updated photographs here will show the B17/1 with the correct washout plugs.

I must add, that seems a little harsh on Hornby. They have catered for many different variants of locomotive with all their toolings from the top of the range Bulleid Pacifics onwards.

Not sure it would do well for Steam locomotives, but in any event renumbering and renaming isn't hugely difficult. Bachmann did do an unnumbered B1 once - that didn't sell very well as I recall.

Triang did it with a couple of Locos that they advertised as CKD kits, i think it was a dodge to get round a type of tax. One of the locos was a Manchester Sheffield dc electric that came with a range of names and numbers i cant remember the other but im sure it was steam.
Apparently the term CKD came from the motor industry where cars that were exported were Completely Knocked Down for reassembly after shipping abroad. Perhaps someone on here has an old catalogue that describes my rusty memories better.
