A shame - the NRM has undergone a lot of improvements over the past few years - Search Engine (definitely top of the list), the Art Gallery, the imminent arrival of the A4's from across the Atlantic, and Railfest - although I understand Railfest didn't do too well attendance wise partly owing to the weather, it did at least show a will to experiment and give things a try which is a lot more than can be said for many museums. Can't be easy running the NRM either - comments about the NRM on various forums and their facebook page can make for very depressing reading which doesn't help with the image to the public of railway enthusiasts

Sadly overshadowed by the huge cost of Scotsmans restoration which is still ongoing, Railfest loss and damage at same event to the NER Dynamometer Roof and Bodywork due to water ingress.
I went to the NRM this year and a vast improvement of my last visit 20 + years ago most of which appears to be recent work.

Ay up!

A real shame. The Museum has changed a lot, some things for the better, some for the worse but that's always the way. If he has resigned over Scotsman, that will be a pity. The overrun and overcost of this project is simply as a result of getting a steam engineer involved (Mr Riley). He's found problems that were either overlooked or ignored during previous overhauls.

As for the dynamometer car, surely if summat is kept in a museum then surely it doesn't have to be weatherproof? So surely if was to be displayed outside, then someone should have checked it? And if it wasn't checked for weatherproofness, then isn't that the fault of the workshop staff? They now have a much bigger job than they would have had if the roof had simply been re-proofed on spec.
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!
