G'Day Gents
Wonderful bit of work there, it's a wonder nobody thought to do the conversion of W1 that way before, excellent

I see the Model Rail cat is out of the bag. It's nice that I've found a publisher at last, at least three years (maybe four?) after submitting it in original form to "another magazine" which then just sat on it.....
I wouldn't do the K1 body now as I did it then, but I think the article says that, unless that bit has disappeared in the editing. It would be easier to just clean details from the whole boiler and running plate tops, shorten as required and then add new details / fittings, but my original approach using staggered cuts did prove that all of the original details can be saved if you wish.
Back to the A4 / W1 bits. I can now produce the casting for the dragbeam and rear cab floor section of the W1. A replacement front apron in resin can also be produced, for we cheapskates who pick up spare A4 bodies with missing parts - or for those who drop their A4s nose first on the deck. I've yet to try drilling out the buffer sockets to take original Hornby sprung buffers or others. I'll let you know in due course whether the resin stands up to the drilling. I've also inset a picture here of a raw casting of the washout plugs. They are fiddly to clean up, and to handle once detached from the sheet of flash, but they offer a useful dodge if changing details on fireboxes. Simon Martin is trying some of these out, he may let us know how he gets on and whether, in the end, he likes them or not.

Will let you know at the end of the week Graeme
They looked good to me in the flesh but have not as yet put them on the P2.
The bufferbeam skirt looks good Graeme. It is a pity though that Hornby don't supply that as a spare part. I've taken to breaking up A4 bodies I get off eBay for mine.

I don't know anybody called Greames who produces a buffer beam kit for an A4!
In my days at school I would have got six of the belt for spelling like that!

Here we go again. I had thought that tolerance and inclusiveness were some of the finer aspects of this forum. If someone doesn't share your enthusiasm for the precise written word, please cut them a bit of slack. It's like all the 00 gauge versus "finescale" blather on other sites - let's not go there..... please.Saint Johnstoun wrote:I don't know anybody called Greames who produces a buffer beam kit for an A4!

Watch out Nige, the way they put that n right next to the b on the keyboard could be some sort of shabby Nazi trick......
Waiting patiently for happy hour here . Good one
I've given up worrying about the "finescale" debate / squabble. We can all learn from one another at times, if we take the trouble to pay attention to what is going on. I've even started to be broad minded about real railways too. Aspects of Churchward's 4-cylinder system may for instance have had merit , although NOT to the all encompassing extent that certain people seem to blindly think.
