Re: Ashburton Grove
A couple of photographs taken on a 'unofficial' visit to ASHBURTON GROVE s/box in the summer of 1971 by myself and a Mr.A.Dollimore who took the photographs.

Re: Ashburton Grove
My first box visit was Tempsford and Arlesey wouldn't have been far behind (aged around 5 or 6 years old). I simply had to have one when i was old enough <G> I have a 16 lever section of Whitemoor Junction tucked away for use on the MNR one day.

Where was Ashburton Grove in relation to FP1?Micky wrote:A couple of photographs taken on a 'unofficial' visit to ASHBURTON GROVE s/box in the summer of 1971 by myself and a Mr.A.Dollimore who took the photographs.

Re: Ashburton Grove
.... Off to bottom left of your diagram, RP, controlling only the "Down Canonbury Goods" between Nos. 1 & 2 boxes, the adjacent (at AB) "Up Carriage" between No.2 and (via 'the Creep-Up' incline) Holloway North Up (which was also a Dutton frame ('Set of 85', IIRC), and the connections from both these lines into the intervening sidings (latterly the refuse depot).R.pike wrote: " .... So AB's two lines ran parallel while passing under the main line at U/Bridge 12, and on to No.2 and formed, in effect, right-hand running between AB & No.2.
The also-adjacent other two parallel lines passing under the main line (which could also be considered a R/H-running pair), were the "Up Canonbury Goods" and "Down Canonbury Passenger", neither of which were controlled by AB (and the DCP wasn't controlled by No.2 either, so its block section was No.1 --> No.3.) ....
.... A funny old little area, to be sure.

Definitely agree with that macduff.Micky wrote: " Nice photographs macduff. .... " " .... You have some interesting and good photographs in your collection macduff. "
I see these were when things were getting 'a bit late(-ish) in the day' towards modernisation : the bare lattice post in the second photo used to carry FP No.1's Up Canonbury Goods Distant (fixed; giving what looks like around 175 yards braking distance to its Home Signal (the 'bracket' visible towards the background), but for some reason this signal was in effect transferred, to a new tubular post [I remember seeing it, in 'red oxide'(?) paint, with new arm 'X'-d as not in use] just on the down (No.2 box) side of the main line's overbridge spans: Not at all sure why they bothered to do that.
I didn't notice in those times, the interesting 'fogging' arrangements just there : The rodding from the fogman's position to a det.-placer just in front of FP No.1's Down Canonbury Passenger bracketed starting signal with the three 'splitting' Distants for No.3 box.

G'Day Gents
A very nice picture of Ashburton Grove, shunted in there a few times, the grey roof over the top of the signalbox, is where the unsold magazines were brought back to to be pulped (unless we got to the first), and a little to the right was the the 'creep up'.

Re: Ashburton Grove
This photo taken from nearly the same spot after the re-signalling, the creep up can be seen much better.
