Sawdust - Thanks for the pics, I now see what you meant, and yes I agree they are Mr T's, but we won't say anything .
Sorry nothing to show, been busy being taken shopping by the wife over the weekend, and there will be nothing for a couple of days yet as I'm fixing gutters on an evening and on some pooie team building lets work together with main contractors and love each other course thing over the next couple of days. Waste of time, you always have to work in a team to get buildings built....don't you?.

Looks as if the NRM's Buffet has the wrong faceplate fitted!
641 on the NYMR on the other hand has the right faceplates

Wouldn't be the first time they've got something wrong, and won't be the last.

Well the interior is a bit of a mish mash to say the least!Manxman1831 wrote:Wouldn't be the first time they've got something wrong, and won't be the last.
To be fair to the NRM that gangway might have been replaced in BR days.

And as I already said, we put a Thompson one on 56856 by mistake. So I can forgive the NRM that one! (But not the brown lamp irons.)

Re: Daves C & W Works
I am going to be controversial here and suggest that the labels 'Gresley' and 'Thompson' are being misapplied. The Pullman gangway goes back way before either of them had any influence on carriage design; Thompson was still wearing shorts and attending primary school when the GNR adopted the Pullman gangway.
It's worth a look back through Ken Hoole's Illustrated History of ECJS, and Harris' Gresley Coaches and also GNR and ECJS Carriages from 1905 for those rare end views of carriages, but also the end views on the carriage diagrams. You will note level and curved tops to the faceplate, and level and curved soffits to the interior opening; furthermore, the curves seem to have varying radii.
What is worse is that there does not even appear to be a GN Doncaster or NE York divide in usage!

Re: Daves C & W Works
Mike Trice and myself have already reached the conclusion that the shape of the inside top of the Pullman gangway follows the shape of the vestibule door top on Gresley carriages. If the vehicle has bodyside doors at the end then I believe it has to have a curved top on it's vestibule door in order to allow it to swing right round. The ceiling at the end has to be curved because of the oak beam that supports the top springing arrangement of the gangway.65447 wrote:I am going to be controversial here and suggest that the labels 'Gresley' and 'Thompson' are being misapplied. Re: Daves C & W Works
Been on my hols again so not much has happened.
Interesting stuff about the face plates.
Mike the mr T i mentioned a while back was Mr Thompson not your good self Mr Trice .
I've managed to do a bit since I returned, started putting the grab handles on the roof of the D10c and started finishing the bogies. I could not get the wheels out of one of the sods, kitchen roll to the rescue.
Before I went on me hols I found my J72 in the loft, where it has lain for about 20 years.....I will post a couple of pics, and then get round to finishing it.....

D113 - Fox bogies sprayed ye olde Halfords matt black. I find the wheelie bin is a perfect height for spray painting, and it's outdoors so the paint does not damage the decorating, so keeps the boss happy.
J72 - This is the J72 I converted to em gauge many years ago due to chassis failure, I think it must have been one of the early ones to have been produced, I got several when they first came out, notice the price, and that shop stopped selling railway modelling stuff years ago.
It has a compensated Perseverance chassis from Puffers, Alan Gibson wheels (I think) and a Mashima motor. Although it has not been run for years..lost in the loft, it ran perfectly on a bit of test track. I started to add details to it from an article in a modelling mag (1990's some time) which had photo's and drawings etc, if anyone has a copy of the article I could have or can recollect which mag it was I would be most greatful.

Re: Daves C & W Works
A failed attempt to make some lamp shades for the D10C as replacements for the one I fitted, I took a pullman apart and used one of the brass lamps as a master, pressing the head into some plasticine and adding some clear resin....all went ok but the plasticine stuck to the resin. Plan E now in place.
D10C - Bogie steps added , now primed and painted.
I've found my methfix transfers so Fox can go and swivel, no reply from my second email to them.
I'm also trying to put off the fateful day I apply the lining.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Plan E worked a treat.
Yesterday a quick phone call to Peters Spares in Middlesborough (01642 909794) do they have any old type brass Hornby pulman lamps, the very helpful man there said no but directed me to East Kent Models (01227 770777), another phone call at 4pm to them....yes they had...ordered, paid for, and guess wot, in my little sticky mits this morning. Well done to both shops... real customer service, and the mail did their bit too. So I now have replacment lamps for the ones I fitted.
