I am working with Peter Harvey of PH Designs, but just waiting on a second opinion from another modeller before we proceed with making the production batch.Atlantic 3279 wrote:Forum contributor S.A.C. Martin is I believe working on a valance profile jig for those who wish to cut them off.
In fairness Mick, that's the point. It's a choice, and I didn't feel (still don't) that I could replicate the excellence of Hornby's parabolic curves or paint finish through a full re-spray. Some people will re-spray, others will adapt LNER models. Both are legitimate methods, just a matter of personal preference and skills one posseses.mick b wrote:The BR version also gives you much more detail ready made !! I personally would rather respray than adding new lubricators, reversing rod etc.
The kit also gives (thanks to Peter Harvey's superb artwork), correct shape and bracketed lamp irons (Hornby models don't have these), spare lubricator, reverser rod (both of which are normally missing on second hand models), smokebox numberplate brackets, the missing access hatch on the front of the casing, cab doors, AWS plate and a few more besides.
It's a great kit for generic detailing as well as coming with the etched shaper tools to allow removal of the plastic valances. As I say, changes will be made once we've had our second opinion and second test build before I give Peter the go ahead for the production batch.
The W1 build is looking rather good there Graeme. Will your resin washout plugs be available for purchase separately, as with the rest of your parts list?
