Ay up, Blackout.
Looks more like a Walschaert eccentric rod rather than GA's middle con rod. A middle con rod has a forked end - this one has eyes both ends.
GA's accident was caused by water carry-over into the cylinders. I reckon probably BP's eccentric.

That would mean that rod is left over from the massive wheelslip it had years ago. I seem to remember that put paid to Blue Peter's mainline running, but others tell me that it saw out the boiler certificate.

I was going on what an explainer at the NRM told me - but he did also say that 60800 ran as a 2 cylinder loco for a few years aftwards which is a load of rubbish - a spare middle con rod was found and installed.

There's an interesting story about that replacement rod - it was being used as a footrest!

'tis unfortunate that some of our best-loved museums are being run by people who don't understand the items they are dealing with, right through from full-size to models - par example - exhibits with the wrong/incomplete information boards, or even models running with the wrong trains, remember folks the brakevan is supposed to match the engine (MR with MR, NE with LNER/NER, etc). And it's not just the folks at Leeman Road that are getting it wrong either (looks at a place in Derbyshire).

I've done this a few times for a laugh at the NRM, I've found an explainer and asked them about a certain loco (usually Green Arrow or Mallard), listened to them tattle on and then corrected them
Interestingly, the last time I went, (upon an enquiry about 60800's smokebox numberplate) a gentleman on the info desk told me that Green Arrow ran in LNER colours with the smokebox numberplate. It took me about five minutes to get it through to him it was a BR plate and had nothing to do with the LNER livery
BUT, saying this the chap was rather helpful and I have since had an email reply saying the numberplate has been found and I am welcome to pop in to see it and photograph it Still no luck with getting in 60800's cab though

Anyways, just a quick update as I know it has been a while. Here are a couple of photo's of progress since my last lot - tender is awaiting a coat of varnish before transfer are applied to both sections. Comparisons are for the purpose of finding which 4-8-2 of mine that people prefer - the stretched A1PX based on Saint Johnstoun's drawing (very loosely mind), or the approximation of the February 1946 proposal?
I've enjoyed building both, but have been a bit slower with the 'real' one, and neither are properly finished yet.

I've been making some VERY slow progress on my two 4-8-2's of late - any slower and I'll be quicker going backwards - and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I've finally got around to fitting numbers and some lining to the new one, the number to the original one.

Been having some more fleabay oriented shenanigans - wallet beat me about the head for this one. Managed to get a hold of a spare set of GN drivers - lovely things too - and some more items to boot. Also got into a discussion about tenders and lining, and lost enough ground to the point of a partial repaint and relining. A start has been made on the front bufferbeam, and so I should be in a position to apply numbers to all of my locos front ends at some point in the near future.
Still no progress to report on the Reid-Ramsay, sorry.

Today was an interesting day out. Down to NTHC at Ruddington for their Miniature Traction Engine Rally - looked like 7 in the end. Took my big engines down to run on the Ruddington layout. I think with a few tweaks I ought to be able to get the Feb '46 around the Up lines right enough - it looked rather spectacular on twelve Gresley's before it came off. Oops. No damage though, so all is well. It appears as though the front bogie was lifting off of the track at a board join, so a little lowering of the support bracket should see things right, as well as getting a little more out of the bogie screw.
10003 and 4915 still run as sweetly as ever.
Names for 752 and 4915 will be "Knight of St George" and "Warspite" respectively, with 10003 having been named "Leader".
Details yet to be added :-
10003 - drop-plate between loco and tender. Silver lining along bottom of tender and cab sidesheet. Crew. Worksplates. Safety valves for the water-tube boiler.
4915 - nameplates and ships crests. Whistle. Crew. Front numbers. Worksplates.
752 - nameplates. Handrails. Drop-plate between loco and tender. Whistle. Crew. Bufferbeam pipes and lining.
Not sure if I have missed anything, but I'm sure I'll remember at Peterborough.

Close. It's a cut-and-shut B12 that my partner wanted to have a bash at. I did the cutting and she'll be painting it as and when she is feeling well enough to proceed. Been a rough month, again.
