51L SHED THORNABY

Does anyone have any video of the shed 51L Thornaby.
My dad worked there and took pictures, we have searched high and low for video (if anyone knows where to find video pr you have any video we would very much apprecite it)

My research is to help me build a model of the roundhouse.
I am particularly interested in any images that show the roof support pillars, girders and lighting etc. as I have hardly any information on this part of the building. I would also be interested in any images that show how the turntable rails were mounted at the bottom of the pit, although any images of the roundhouse would be helpful. Would you be able to help me please?

When being constructed Thornaby was going to have three round sheds but the modernisation plan scuppered that and only one was built.The surplus guirders were cut up on site. Iif you walked across all the sets of lines from west to east there was a line from the "bull ring"(round shed) then a line to the stores.Then two diesel roads where 350HP diesels were serviced then six repair roads one being used to stable the tool vans. Six more roads (straight shed) A running line then six preparation roads another running line and finally four inspection pit roads. The inspection pit roads were fed by two lines from the coal stage and led onto four "pit" roads where the fires were dropped or cleaned. This went upto a top point and either via a reverse curve ( 9Fs were not allowed on this section as the flangeless middle drivers would drop in off the road) brought you down to the bull ring or all the straight shed roads less two which were dumb ends . No 1 and 2 repair. There was an outside turntable which had a J26 attempting to cross it when it was laid the wrong way! The engine didn't go the way the driver was looking! There was also an outside siding for sand wagons-two A8s were stabled there for long enough 69860 and 69869 and had a final steaming as standby engines one bank holiday but unfortunately never used then hauled away to be destroyed. In the early months of opening there were about 240 steam engines but many of the passenger tanks were never used. One G5 was used on a workers push/pull service from Middlesbrough to ICI Wilton when there was some local transport dispute. Engines were stabled in the round shed engine away from the table, at Newport and Middlesbrough engines were always put away tender first.
Jim Brodie. Sorry there were only four prep roads not six-any more gaffs like that and I could be considered for promotion, well when you are at the bottom the only way you can go is up? I found the photo of the '''bent''' outside table but the foreman wouldn't let me photo the J26 only the table afterwards. minutes before Sir Brian came to open the new shed one of our PFs bent the handrail on the Bullring table!!! We all stood round it so Sir wouldn't notice it. Geeorge got promoted to a loco inspector as well. nuf sed

Seek out the anarchistic web site 28DL (twenty eight days later) there was a set of Thornaby pics after closure. Worth looking at.
