Hello everyone

A christmas treat for you all. Hornby 2008 range: I recieved an e mail from kernow model centre with the details of the new locos:

(brace yourself)

Diesel and electric first:

New as in brand new HST in many liveries including blue and grey,
and class 153 the one carriage train
Lima revived class 20 and 87 and lots of wagons with names i don't particularly understand and are departmental, which department or if it is 'the department' it doesn't say and i'm not really interested to find out why.

Steam news (and the reason behind the bitter sarcasm)

BR standard 5, which was used regularly everywhere but the ER saw it the least.

And no prizes for guessing: Southern T9 and schools class. I'm going back to burn the turkey. Goodnight and a merry Christmas

You need to switch scales - I'm waiting for my B17 "Doncaster Rovers" from Dapol!

The T9 has been topping the Model Rail wish list for years, so it's about time somebody took the plunge. Also, a new 'Schools' is sorely needed.

And besides, with the T9 out the way, that means Robinson's 04 will be topping the lists, having been 2nd for a few years too... maybe one of those for 2009/10? Or maybe Bachmann will pick it up sooner...

I'm surprised there isn't a ready-to-run O4 for either N or OO. There were huge numbers built, and they operated with all of the Big Four. Perhaps it is a problem that there are too many variants? (the LNER had 10 major variants: O4/1-O4/8, O5, Thompson O1)

Unfortunately, Hornby used to have this wierd mentality where if they produce a model that has a paritcular role, e.g. light goods, local passenger, etc. then that will satisfy all, regardless of what company the engine belongs to. This is reflected in the Triang products that survive in their range. Having made the 8F already, they probably think that there's no longer any gap in the heavy goods 2-8-0 market: large numbers, WD's standard heavy freight engine in World War II, went to other companies in said war, etc. etc. Now it's up to the consumers to notify the manufacturers, through surveys and requests with magazines and model shops, of the exact models they want, to assure the manufacturers that they will sell well. As I'm sure most of you know, the Hornby Q1, Bachmann Super D and K3 had been at the top of these lists before manufacturers took them on. If we continue to keep LNER products at the top of the lists, via feedback at model shops or participating in magazine surveys, then we will ensure that some new LNER products are produced in the next couple of years.

I, for one, send back the form for the most recent Model Rail survey, stating that the one RTR model I want to see made at the moment is the J15

I agree that we need to start hammering hornby and bachmann. And i also tend to agree that the one loco fits all has prevailed so long as that one loco has a lot to do with lines around Kent.

Perhaps we should be a little more organised in the new year and all go after the polls and vote for the same loco as one of our top two that way we can force it up the charts...

So everyone behind the regulator for the big shove. and in the meantime, lets wait and see what Bachmann come up with. Fingers crossed for a J(anything).

I see that Hornby are including a new A3 in their 2008 releases: 60049 Galtee More with double chimney, smoke deflectors and GNR style tender with coal rails. Thats all there will be for the BR(E) enthusiasts in 2008.

This is a variation that has not previously been produced, but all the components have been featured before, just not all together. So this has cost Hornby very little.

There is another BR green A4 too but nothing special there. There is an LNER blue A4 in the railroad range that appears to use the new chasis and the old tender top and body (from the Ringfield) so things aren't as bad as they appeared at one point and there is a digital B12 in the new DCC pullman set. The full lineup is now on www.hornby.com so fill your butchers.

The MRE mag 2008 poll has started, it has in the last few years led to the production of the T9 and the G2A so if you want to see a J15 or ROD then mobilise.
