A good list of dates Stevie, Knebworth closed at the sametime as Woolmer Green closed i recall also regarding the 'temporary panel' at Holloway you was probably correct about it being located in the relay room and not a 'portacabin' like i posted before but i am 98% sure it was located on the Holloway cattle dock a long side the redundant Holloway south up s/box.

The name Bob Millburn rings a vague bell (after thinking about it) but as previously posted he never worked WGC when it was a mechanical s/box.

The only signalmen that i can recall that worked WGC s/box during the 1972-74 period was-

Regular Signalmen-

1.Cecil White
2.Alan 'pedler' Palmer
3.Harry Fitzgerald

Relief Signalmen-

4.Dave Tilbury
5.Norman Greenwood
6.Bill Taylor
7.Roy Revell but Roy only learnt the box after the panel was commissioned.
8.A Yorkshire fella (ex-miner) who's surname was called Jones who was about 30 years old in 1973 and who learnt the s/box about 6-9 months before the lever frame was abolished worked WGC on a few occasions (he also worked Hatfield no.1 as well) although i never saw him work the panel, god knows wot ever happened to him after i left the box in March 1974??.

And finally the curtains in the picture?.

I recall a (rather attractive looking) woman of about 30-35 coming to the s/box one day early in 1974 and 'measuring up' for the curtains, if she's still alive she would be pushing about 70 odd by now!!.

I remember Bob Millburn - but not as a Signalman!

He finished his railway careeer in the ticket office at Baldock - still on Signallers rate of pay of course!

The NX panel was interesting at first but obviously not as interesting at the lever frame still i am glad that i experienced thoughs times in the box at WGC in the early 1970s.

Great days...

Almost the very second I called up and started reading your latest post Micky, an ad came on the TV for a car with a model name of....... "the Lexus ' CT ' " !

Reckon I remember going to Hatfield (2) panel one Sat, and finding CC on duty when I was expecting to find Norman Greenwood, but I must've been a bit early, and he didn't seem to mind at all. - I'd think he would've also done the boxes from Welwyn N., etc. towards Langley sort of area at some time or other; and maybe Marshmoor. He'd have been an ideal candidate to give cover for the Hertford loop boxes, but I don't remember him ever doing so.
Perhaps Roy Revell might still remember 'who knew where'.

Distinctly remember one day (probably before Hat. panel days), being at No.2 with NG when phone calls revealed that the roster clerk was trying to find Roy, to agree to cover a Sat. late tturn at Wel.N.
Some mirthful satisfaction ensued from the locals' knowledge allowing the clerk to be put straight ; - that Roy was on Leave that week .................and he didn't know ('sign'; - been officially 'passed out' as competent to operate) Welwyn.N box anyway !
