Post by eastern pheonix »

Hi van any one help. I am currently builbing a chassis for the above as it was around 1956 can any one tell me if the balance weight were cast in, fabricated with rivets showing or without rivets showing. I suspect that it may be a characteristic of where made I can not find a clear enough picture I have found 61018 picture with rivets I am sure someone out there knows. Thanks

Hello Pheonix
On page 26 of 'Power of the B1's' there is an excellent photograph of 61000,taken on 3/11/1957,showing clearly the absence of rivetted plates to the balance weights on the driving wheels.
I hope this can help.
cheers............Hunslet

Rivetted balnce weights

Post by Boris »

According to Yeadon Register Volume 6 .

Only Seven B1s,61035,61258,61284,61311,61360,61362 61394 had balance weights although it shows 61017 with them and suggests it had changed driving whells with 61258 at some point whilst having general repairs.

There is a very good pic of 61017 at York showing these.

Hope I'm not infringing his copyright.
