Tiviot Dale Station

Post by amdaley »

Hello Everyone.
Doe's anyone have or know where I could get a track plan & photographs for this station.
Forgive me if this location was part of the LMS & not the LNER. I am unsure about this.
Thank you.
Regards.
Tony.

Tiviot Dale

Tony,

Tiviot Dale was a Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) station and as such was 2/3 LNER and 1/3 LMS.

My brother and I made an abortive attempt to model this station in N gauge a few years ago.

The best place to start for pictures is getting hold of a copy of Scenes from the Past: 13 Stockport Tiviot Dale by Gregory K. Fox (Foxline publishing 1991). It's long out of print, but you ought to be able to get a copy secondhand. This has a good few photos of the station (as you might expect) and includes a couple of plans (one 1882 and one one at some point later), which unfortunately are without scales.

Another book with a few views of Tiviot Dale is Scenes from the Past:16 (part 1) The Midland Route from Manchester Part One by E.M. Johnson (again Foxline Publishing). This covers the line from Manchester Central to New Mills via Didsbury, Stockport and Marple.

I found large scale OS maps for the relevant area to be very useful.

The following website has a few views of what remains/was at the station site a few years ago:

www.bikerides.dsracing.me.uk/railway/tiviotdale.htm

Hope the above are of some use to you. What are you planning?

Hi There.
Thank you for that. I found out about the Johnson book but I didn't know about Scenes fron the past. I will check it out.
Thanks.

Hello.
To answer you fully. I have just bought a OO gauge model of the station made professionally & I wanted to put a track plan to it. Generally I just wanted to know more about the station, what ran through it etc.

Hello Everyone.
I got a copy of this book today.
Stockport Tiviot Dale by Gregory K. Fox (Foxline publishing 1991.
Very good with lots of photos which are a bit dark but then they are very old.
It would have been nice to see good photos of the platform side of the buildings, there are a few but its hard to make out details. Of course station building plans would have been great but no such luck.
Regards.

Kind regards
