Re: Daves C & W Works
Atso, thats what I was thinking but you know the armchair know alls will say NOOOOOOOOOO.. they did not do it that way you are wrong.....you know the type.
Well it's taken me all lunchtime to scrape off the paint to expose the brass window vents....how I wish I had not found out they were polished brass, I could then have left them and given them a coat of brown paint. Glazing is now cut and ready for a coat of Finish (if I have enough left). Does anybody have an alternative.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Nothing much done over the weekend, applied Finish to glazing...not much left now, I am going to experiment with other flooring products to find an alternative as nobody seems to have one.
D10C - Window surrounds now polished, spent all lunch time scribing louvre vents on the glazing for the saloon section......boring dull job ..just like work .

Re: Daves C & W Works
Sorry for not updating, but this week I've been to busy with site meetings and warm evening BBQ's and drinking to do much modelling.
Still D10C - Glazing a bit of a disaster and I'm redoing the louvres (measure twice cut once), I've made the corridor glazing semi opaque as the official photo, by masking the vent section and rubbing with fine grades of wet and dry, remember the glazing in the top vents is clear glass.
I don't think I will get much more done now before the weekend.

Re: Daves C & W Works
You might like to rethink that. The louvres are distinctly on a different level than the main glazing.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Mike - ha ha are you serious or just taking the piss, but you have me thinking.
The louvres in the pic have been scrapped, if you look you might see there were to many on one window.
The cut outs were to allow a place where the glue could get a hold on the body.
Transfers...I emailed Fox nearly 2 weeks ago with a simple question regarding their LNER lettering, I need 5" high letters for RESTAURANT CAR and I wanted to know if they made them, as they make the incorrect 7" high letters..have I had a reply...no. I think Fox should have a much better customer care policy, emails are so easy to answer, a simple yes or no would do....but nothing is not good enough when you consider the cost of their products and the cost of buying somthing that is incorrect, NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOX !, rant over.

Re: Daves C & W Works
No I am not extracting the yellow stuff. What I have done in the past is scribe and cut the grooves then a rectangle of glazing and fixed it outside the frame, rather than inside. Normal glazing behind.
Will post an image of the arrangement on the NRM Sleeping Car section later (possibly tomorrow morning).

Re: Daves C & W Works
Mike, Thanks, I would like to see a pic, I had a horrible feeling you were being serious.
I have just spent all lunch cutting out the saloon glazing again with an extra louvre section to be fixed from the outside to form the step..just as you describe. I've tested some off cuts and my glue does not frost the plastic, so I think I'm in business.....now to make them open.

If I had suggested that then I would have been taking the proverbial!!!!Dave wrote:now to make them open.

D10C - Cut the louvres from this master scribed piece and got the kitchen end glazed, painted with several thin coats of Vallejo Off white. I've stuck the glazing in with Araldite rapid.
On the toilet window I've tried to add the small clear oval, that was hard to scrape the shape, still it gives the idea.

Re: Daves C & W Works
I was not born to work, why does it get in the way of modeling, still I've made a bit of progress.
D10C - Louvres added to saloon, now all fully glazed. Glazing just needs a clean to remove finger marks and bits.
D113 - The second one, I was able to get a coat of etch primer on it, needs a little bit of rubbing down in places as I managed to get a hair on it.
Thoughts are turning to lining the thing, I got some Exactoscale opaque lining inks (yellow and red) many years ago, but have never tried them, has anybody else used these?. I have alway used Humbrol signal yellow enamel in the past as the tin I have is a bit dull in colour and does not seem to jump out off the model, if you know what I mean.

Re: Daves C & W Works
Ay up!
You got me all excited then, Dave. Lining inks for my Rotring pen! I'll have me some of that! 'Cept its now deleted.....
However, I have used white and red crylic inks in mine to reproduce BR mixed traffic lining with good results. The, sadly, my nervous breakdown robbed me f my steady hand, so that was that!
However, if your pen is in good nick it should be pretty good. Please keep us informed!

Re: Daves C & W Works
BB, just for you to get all excited again.. I took a pic of the red ink, I don't think I will ever be tempted to line a carriage with a red line outside the yellow in 4mm scale.
I have a good stock of Rotring pens including some black ones which must be 40 years old now.
D10C - I've been making curtains, and decided to do them green. I painted the usual thin paper with a thinned green and then added some non thinned streaks for effect, the curtains were cut out of this using a sharp new blade and a template from scrap plastic card (you can never have enough templates for repeat jobs). Then much smaller streaks of unthinned green were added to simulate the folds. The tie backs were then painted on with a slightly darkened version of the green. Just need to hang em, thats womans work, where is the current memsahab .
