West Blyth Staithes
Hi everyone!
I'm hoping that someone can save me from delirium and madness.... I know I've seen a photo online of the ground frame at West Blyth Staithes; it showed the shunter's hut containing the ground frame and on the back wall of the hut was the signalling diagram for the frame and the two controlled signals and points. Does anyone know where to find this photo? I've searched Flickr, Google, etc etc and can't find any trace of it... please tell me I wasn't hallucinating!
Cheers
Jon

This may be worth a try:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/ ... id=4-8#4-8
Give the archivist a ring at Northumberland RO (its on the website) and see what they have.
Best of luck.

If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!
Re: West Blyth Staithes
Was it possiably on fotopic? If so the owner might not have got round to uploading to one of the other photo sites that you have been searching yet.
Its good to know where you stand. Saves making a fool of yourself later......

No, it's not on fotopic.
The site is Access to Archives which is basically a list of what's available at which local Archive. Given the current Govt's oversized axe, there's no way they're going to be digitized in the forseeable future (boo!) so you'll have to ring the Archivist and discuss your requirements. Don't worry - Archivists don't bite and are usually happy to see someone using their materials!
However, be warned. Archives are fascinating places and easy to get side tracked. You'll be amazed as to what you'll find. Mrs BB recently found an old newspaper photo of her uncle selling cabbages on a market stall here in Wolverhampton-by-the-Sea, taken to commemorate the closure of the old Market prior to the new one opening. She never knew he'd ever had a market stall!

This is probably nothing to do with the question but in the 1971 film GET CARTER that was filmed in part around either Newcastle or Sunderland? i remember there is a very brief shot of someone running over a mass of railway lines in some sidings above a coal staith with some miniture signals on some bracket posts.

Re: West Blyth Staithes
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the replies... I've already investigated (and lost several days to...) our local archives; however I'm sure that this photo was online and it was fairly recently so I'm sure it wasn't an ex-fotopic one. Google has failed me for once, and I'm starting to think I'm going slightly mad.... I may have to become obsessive and make this my life's ambition to find muhahahah
Best wishes,
Jon

Re: West Blyth Staithes
Have you tried Ernies Railway Archive?
He has quite a bit of stuff from Blyth on it:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswiss ... 511380460/
Its well worth a look even if the picture you want is not there.
