Call me cynical but i'd like to bet that flag was made in China.

Yes but there's always a delicious irony in people who wave their little plastic Union Jacks and forget (or more likely never think) that the very symbol of national identity they are holding was made in a foreign country. Its like on Dragons Den you think how nice it is that a small business has got the money but the first thing the Dragons do is get a quote from China.

Surely the whole point of that window display is to take the mickey out of the obsessive nature of the LOCOG attitude to non official use of any words associated with the games.

Hence everything is wrong, including the square 'rings' so they can have a complete olympic display but can't be prosecuted for copyright infringement on anything.

Whoever called the photo "olympic fail" is either childish, brainless, or both.

It is in fact a very clever success.

Looking at the ones closest to hand, my camera was made in Japan and my car in Germany.

Seems like a complete waste of taxpayers money to me.

At the risk of being branded a kill-joy, I would have just have had The Queen (Her Maj. not the band) walk up onto a dais, cut a ribbon and say:-

"I now declare the London 2012 Olympics open"

That would have saved millions.

It cannot be the words which are registered as a trademark, unless they were registered immediately after London were awarded the games, as there was a court ruling a couple of years ago that everyday descriptive words can no longer be protected. This ruling does not affect older trademarks, just the registration of newer ones. The olympic rings will of course be registered, and I believe that the words together with the rings can be protected too. So there should be no problem in talking about the Olympics in London in 2012, provided we don't use the full logo. Incidently the shop window is excellent!

I went to the opening ceremony rehearsal last night (spent most of this week in and around Stratford as I have been conducting compliance audits on specific companies), and even if you are cynical, uninterested, and fed up of the sporting side to the Olympics, you absolutely must watch the opening ceremony. It's bloody brilliant. Particularly the second section of the performance, I feel many railway buffs would be delighted with the overall theme.

There is literally something for everyone in this performance and I can't express how much I enjoyed the rehearsal enough. It was enough to make a grown man cry (pretty much did) when I saw my sister doing her routine in the section in front of me. So proud and delighted to see the whole thing went together so well!

I took literally hundreds of photographs and an hour of film, but won't be releasing any of it until after the opening ceremony has been completed. It is a sight I will not forget I suspect.
