Post by 60800 »

Anyone got any progress updates on 63601's return to original GCR livery?

It was taken out of service a couple of weeks ago, they never did repaint it... a shame, I e-mailed the railway several times to ask if it was still happening but never got a reply

Oh, so she's ready for a full restoration? I thought it was just a repaint

Last I heard in passing was that the boiler certificate had run out. Ten years passes by so quickly.

I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

Its been fastracked for repair, so it could be out in 18 months time.

That's a nice relief then. It would be a shame to not have any GCR locos on the GCR.

Out of interest, are the 04 and D11 the only surviving GCR locos?

An 04 isn't but an O4 (with a letter) is  Class 04's are diesel shunters.

And yes, i believe they are the only GCR locomotives we have left.

Indeed your right. There is a scheme running to build a new D7 using an existing tender, cylinder block and that M&GN boiler thats at Mangapps farm.

Don't forget the 3 RODs in Australia!

It would be great to have one of those repatriated.

I hadn't, I was just counting them out as ROD and not GCR built locos

Might be a challenge getting hold of the owners. They seem very elusive.

That'd be nice. ROD locomotive in ROD livery running over the 100th anniversary of WW1. Or maybe the GCR can do it if they bear to repaint it in non-BR livery

We actually had the GCR D7 hopefuls have their meeting at Ruddington the other week. The head guy had done a model of 567 (the hoped for loco) along with a Barnum and a 6-wheeler. All three looked very fine models, and once they'd run in definitely looked the part. It will be a bit like Iron Duke in the sense that it will be made up of parts from other sources and the mainframes will need to be freshly built.

I'm not sure on the official number of GC-built locos surviving in the UK, I'll check with a couple of preserved loco books first.
