Regular steam
Regular steam is becoming a large part of the tour market now and expands every year. New for next year is the Cotton Mill express running Manchester-Copy Pit-Blackburn-Manchester with one of Ian Rileys locos providing power. 44871 is booked as the main engine through the summer though. The part of this tour I will be looking forward to is a run out for 76079 solo over the summit because with a load of anything over 5 bogies for a class four engine on copy pit bank the nice should be something special. This train is operated by past-time rail in partnership with WCRC and IRE
The tour joins other regular steam operations around the country, booked for 2008 are
The Jacobite (fort william-malliag) locos TBA
Steam to Whitby (NYMR Battersby/Glisdale-Whitby) locos TBA, 75029 properble
The Cambrian Coast Express (Barmouth bridge) 76079
The Dalesman (Hellifield-Carlisle and rtn) locos TBA
The Cumbrian Coast Dalesman (Carnforth-Ravenglass and rtn) locos TBA
With hope Tyseley will add its own circular trips later and either WCRC or The Railway touring company could be running another season of York-Harrogate-York-Scarbourgh and rtn runs next year. This means on some given week ends next year there could be 8 steam locos operating a train in a regular path on the mainline. I see this as a real plus for the mainline movements. The way the tour markets seem to be going now aim at cheap regular trips over well known routes that appeal to tourists, joe public and enthusiasts, add to this diesel merry maker tours and the long haul tours (normally a weekend to a week) aimed at the land cruise and mile tickers. This I feel is the way to go. Little and Often over well known and interesting routes at low prices, plus interesting routes and motive powers on a one off basis, the future looks bright in my opinion, any thoughts

NYMRs two home based Whitby engines next year will be 75029 and (30)825, the latter which will be returning to the NYMR in mid December from Ian Riley's at Bury. It is expected to go streight into the workshops for fitting of AWS and TPWS equipment. B1 61264 is also expected to return next year. K1 62005 may also be available for part of next year's season, before heading up to Fort William. These will of course be supported by other visitors.

Of course the guage issue on the Whitby line is now been solved by Network Rail so maybe a chance of 60007 doing a bit of maineline testing and running in on Whitby runs

No, unfortunalty 60007 will never get to Whitby due to it being too heavy for the river bridge at Ruswarp, North of Grosmont. The gauging issue was with regards to an overbridge on the Battersby-Middlesbrough section which meant 60007 couldnt get underneath it. Therefore 60007 can go West from Grosmont, but never any further North than Grosmont on the Esk Valley Line.

Shame. Would have been good to see no7 at whitby, atleast now other A4s can get to the NYMR. Maybe now we will get numbers 7,9 and 19 in steam on a preserved line at the same time.
Of course what I would realy like and maybe some other people too is the line up below
60007, 60009, 60019, 60163, 61264, 61994, 62005, 63601, 63395 and if the over haul comes to furision 60532.
Of course I would like 62005 and 61994 on Whitby runs with 61264 doing the odd turn. Maybe even the N7 present at a gala. Thats a point how many operational LNER locos are there in preservation?

NYMR are planning a big LNER event for spring next year, over two weekends, al 3 operational A4s have been booked, as well as our own LNER fleet, there is also the prospect of our usual visitors such as 61264 and 61994, as well as possibly 62005. Also, the star of the show, will be 4771 Green Arrow bending her final working turns on the NYMR, and anywhere for that matter!

No 60103 because it won't get put right either way and as this debate has passed the forum before I will not go into it.
As for the gala add 63395 to the line up and its brilliant I will proberbly come both weekends. Will non-LNER locos be in use as well? This i think would be a good idea, especially a black 5 possibly 45407 or 44871 (if its ready) to represent the locos as they worked on holiday traffic in the Scarburgh area and mush have reached whitby as well.
NYMR is a great railway and all the galas Ive visited have been better than the one before. I was at Gresley 100 and by the sounds of it next years will top that.

Don't forget 62712 Morayshire. It would be pleasant to see this renamed/numbered as 62700 Yorkshire, behind which I had the pleasure of travelling to Whitby, from Hull, some 50+ years ago! (Or to please her Scottish owners, 62717 Banffshire, which, despite the name, was a Botanic Gardens regular for several years in the 1950's)
