Micky, I think you will find that "2012 Olympics" has been registered as a trademark or something by the sponsoring companies so you're not allowed to write it. Whenever people bring the Olympics up in conversation (not that often, I admit) I ask them how they spell it, and if it's 2012 in numbers, not words, I warn them I'll have to report them and that they should expect to hear from McDonald's or whoever.

There's a brilliant TV comedy series running at the moment which had to be named "Twentytwelve" and not "2012" for this reason.

I had never associated Hugh Bonneville with satirical comedy before this show. He's bloody good

G'Day Gents

Seeing that the **** Olympics ( can't put in '2012' as it's copyrighted) is being held at Stratford, couldn't we have a railway based Olympic games, such as 'Shot Whistle' see how far you can throw a brass chime whistle, or a 'Temple Mills' 100 meter 'Hump Shunt' dash, just to liven up the TV broadcast :P

Any thoughts !!

You could have 'track' events, given a big enough station or yard with parallel lines. Tug of war, weightlifting, maybe a version of a discus competition with a quick enough turntable or sharp curve... Javelins, possibly using an adapted whistle? I'm not sure about the long jump though...

I wonder about the use of performance enhancing materials though, would the use of Welsh steam coal be banned?
