Railway photos from Beamish today 22/7/2012

Went over to Beamish today.... it was wet! Unfortunately nothing running on the Edwardian line and the Pockerley Waggonway wasn't able to run due to the rails being too wet (from what I overheard from another visitor). Still, enjoyable as ever, and at least the queue for the fish and chips was short!

Sunderland 101 Balloon tram from Gateshead 10

1909 Siemens Shuckert No 2 Electric locomotive from Westoe colliery, first time i'd gone to have a look at this interesting early electric before

Beamish's newest locomotive, 1901 Manning Wardle 0-6-0ST 'Newcastle' (referring to Newcastle-under-Lyme, not upon-Tyne!), eventually destined to be restored to steam. It fits very well into the colliery scene although it's destined to work on the 1913 railway system

The usual locomotive (based on my previous visits) 'Puffing Billy' wasn't to be seen at the Pockerley Waggonway, so it was nice to see 'Locomotion No 1' in steam for probably the first time

The other tram in service (along with Sunderland 101), Gateshead 10, which may be repainted into BR Green portraying it's time serving on the Grimsby & Immingham line - http://beamishtransport.blogspot.co.uk/ ... itish.html

Re Newcastle, I thought it got its name from the Duke of Newcastle who had land holdings in Norfolk on which Wissington Sugar factory was built. Do you know any more?
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

It was built for the Apedale iron works and named then, before it went to work at Wissington;
